Three weeks ago we flew from Darwin into Singapore, the following day we jumped on a long haul coach and arrived in Kuala Lumpur (Malaysia) that afternoon. We stayed in Malaysia's capital for a couple of days, all we really needed to see the main part of the city. Kuala Lumpur, or KL as its usually known as, is definately not as clean and efficient as Singapore but still an interesting place to visit, the variety (and low cost!) of food was a definite bonus.

Unfortunately due to lack of time we decided to shorten our stay in Malaysia, but i'm sure i'll be back at some point to visit places like Borneo and the Cameron Highlands, all of which have had great reviews.

We managed to get ourselves onto a cheap flight from KL to Phuket (Thailand), then straight to one of the islands known as Ko Phi Phi. This island's settlement was almost completely destroyed during the Tsunami but perhaps has had one of the most successful recoveries of all the areas affected. Phi Phi is a backpacker favourite (although its slightly expensive in comparison to other places) so the party scene is simply awesome. Every night is usually alcohol fuelled (the buckets of whiskey red bull and coke were insane!), but we were also there for Thai new year, which involves a lot more alcohol intake and water being thrown at everyone. In Chiang mai (North Thailand) this water festival continues for 8 days!

Muay thai boxing is incredibly popular sport over there and one bar even encourages travellers to fight each other in the ring to get free booze! Most of the contestants were too drunk to fight anyway so it was great entertainment :D
The film 'The Beach' was made on the neighbouring island and so we travelled by Long tail boat to the location and various beaches around. It was such a beautiful place, pictures really don't do it justice!

After Phi Phi, we island hopped to the more chilled out Ko lanta, a much bigger island but cheaper than Phi Phi. For £5 a night we shared a bungalow that actually had AirCon.. YES!! However because of the island's size we had to rent 125cc mopeds to see it all, but this included elephants, bat caves and rainforest! After spending time and saving some money on Ko Lanta, we started our long journey back to the UK. We caught a shuttle to Krabi and then a 12 hour coach to Bangkok. We arrived early morning, but our flight wasn't until midnight so we had some time to kill around Khao San Road and improve our bahtering skills :D.

I'm back home in sunny england now, but looking back it has been such an amazing trip having meet so many great people and seen incredible places, its a strange feeling staying in one place now! Ultimately, travelling around the world has had a positive effect on me and as the Thais say i'm 'same same... but different' :D
