Today we finally said our goodbyes to Anne and Leonard in Huntsville. We had not expected to stay quite so long in Huntsville, but everyday there was a new excuse for not leaving. It was initially about making sure that we missed the hurricane related storms from Gustav, then Leonard was trying to get a golf game going for Steve and he to play with Dave and Jeff...the earliest they could golf together was Thursday...thus we planned to stay until this morning.

While the guys were out golfing, I tried one more time to get some photos of the hummingbirds, this time I took them from in the sun-room looking out. There are a couple of good shots, but not as clear as when you are not taking them trough a window.

Anne and I went to one of her pet-sitting jobs then out to lunch. Later in the afternoon, we drove her to the Botanical Gardens where she was attending her Master Gardener Class for the night (5 to 9). Leonard took us on Post (the base) again and we purchased all of the Monster Coffee drinks that they had in stock (23 cans) for the road. After that Steve, Leonard and I went to Applebee's for dinner.

This morning Leonard made Steve a big breakfast of bacon and eggs while I finished Anne's new website for her rental property on the Dutch side St. Maarten in the Caribbean - www.coralshore.com. A great winter spot for anyone looking for a great place to stay this winter for a winter vacation. Leonard and Anne made me a great BLT for lunch before heading on the road.

When we had everything loaded and ready to go, the truck would not start...somehow the battery died. Sitting in 92 degree weather for a week likely helped it along, but we felt blessed that we were not on the road before finding out that there was a problem. We stopped at Advanced Auto Parts and purchased a new battery before heading on the road...they even came out and installed it for us.

We traveled through Alabama, Mississippi and Tennessee on our way to Little Rock Arkansas. We ran into several rainy spots but none of them lasted too long. The countryside from Huntsville to Memphis was rolling hill, farm country. Very pretty in spots but a secondary road so it took us a long time to get as far as Memphis.

From Memphis it seemed to take forever for us to get to Little Rock. We had called ahead to book a Choice Hotel - the Roadway Inn and Suites in Little Rock. The room was only $55 including tax...and when we got close to Little Rock we realized that the hotel was off our beat and track a little, but we were committed, so we decided to just go ahead with the reservation. The room was not bad, but clearly being an older hotel, the rooms had been smoked in even though they have tried to refurbish room...but we can't complain...for the price, it is a bed to sleep in and a place for the cats to roam around for the night.

We are off to Oklahoma City or west of there depending on what time we get going. The delay today with the battery made us have to drive in the dark...we didn't get settled until 10:00 PM. In the morning we are going to meet Judith Lear's son Jake and his wife Gina and 4 year old son Luke for breakfast. We are going to be staying with Judith and her husband Richard while we are in Santa Fe. I met Judith while in Italy last fall with Jane and the Knitaly group. I am looking forward to Steve meeting her and seeing her again. It is interesting that Judith has the same type of Lymphoma that both Anne and Leonard have. She is presently doing well as are Leonard and Anne so we can keep our prayers going for them all to keep well.

Lucky you
We are glad you are having a good trip. Lucky you to spend so much time with Anne and Leonard. I love them a lot but have never had the opportunity to spend much time with them. There is something special about them. Maybe someday I will get to take a trip to see them too. It sounds like they have a wonderful life there together, and even more so with their love of nature. So I don't blame you for not wanting to leave there. It was probably a great time to recharge for the rest of the trip.

Thanks for the blogs. I haven't done any emailing lately, but will get in touch soon and tell you (and the rest of our family) all the latest here. Lots going on. Love to Gonzo and Cocoa also.

Love Trish.
