Where I stayed
Maureen and Jeff Garvin's
As I am sitting here writing this, Max (the horse of a dog) is on the love seat here in Jeff's office, staring at me as I type. He is such a beautiful dog, but he really needs someone who can spend some time with him to teach him some obedience. He really has no idea that he is as large as he is or how strong he is. He thinks that he should be able to behave like Tobi (the Shitzu)...and besides he is still a puppy at a year and a half so he wants to run and play. Running and playing in the house - it is like a charging bull in a sweet puppy body.
Today we went over to Crystal (my niece's) place to visit Brody (her 10 month old son). Katie came with us for the afternoon. It was nice to spend some time with her.
When we left Crystals, I told them that I wanted to go to the mall to look for some darker shorts for traveling...I only packed light cloths and it was getting to be a nuisance washing them all the time. Mom had told me about some pants that Northern Reflections had, so that was our first stop...success...I found what I was looking for (Thanks Mom for the suggestion). While in the store, Katie (19) was quick to give Maureen and I advice on what not to buy. Rachael would have been proud of me for listening to Katie - making sure that I was not buying what Rachael calls "Mommy clothes".
Since getting my hair cut (with my bangs a little too short) I have been wanting to have my eyebrows done (shaped and waxed)...Katie said she knew of the perfect place - Visage. Katie stood over us watching to make sure that the gal did a good job. After she was finished and had the approval of Katie, she asked if I wanted to have some foundation put on to cover the redness. That sounded like a great way to get out of the mall without looking like I had been crying all afternoon, so I agreed. The next thing, I was getting a full makeover done, foundation, blush, eye colour, eye liner, mascara and lip gloss. What fun, I really need to do that more often. Michelle LaVigne had mentioned to me that she does that from time to time and how wonderful it was...I agree Michelle (if you are reading). It was great to get made up.
After leaving the mall we headed to Walmart (can you tell that we like Walmart yet?). I forgot (or avoided) mentioning that we had an incident on the road on our way to Windsor...we had been keeping the cat litter box in the trailer. There didn't seem a need for it on the previous legs of the trip. However, I noticed that Cocoa was scratching around a blanket that I had lying on my pillow...for a bed for her...and she was clearly trying to cover up...you know like as if she was in a box. Sure enough, she had peed on my pillow and was using the blanket to try to cover it up. At the next stop, out came the box and in the trash went my pillow. She must have had an upset stomach from the traveling...that might be why she seemed so unsettled. At one point when we had stopped, I looked around to find out where she was and couldn't see her in any of her usual places...I looked into the cat box and there she was, laying in the dirt...silly kitty. I put her back into her bed and she seemed better.
So we were off to Walmart to purchase a new pillow before getting back on the road. We also thought it would be good to have a small compressor in case we had a flat on the trailer. So far, so good but it sure doesn't hurt to be prepared. With all the errands out of the way, we went back to Maureen's place.
Last night all of the girls came over to visit with boyfriends. Two of the five girls are living elsewhere. Crystal, Scott and Brody came first, and Kelly and Katie also visited with us. Maureen had purchased a new toy for Brody and he was sitting on the floor playing with it along with Max and Tobi. Brody kept going after Max's bone...he is at that age where anything is a toy. So cute...it was great to see them all.
A while later, Amanda and her boyfriend Kerry came over for a visit. Last but not least, Sarah (16) came home. She is a very quite girl and we really have not been able to get to know her at all. She keeps to herself and barely says two words - so although we saw her for a few minutes, I really can't say we visited. She seems to be a lovely girl and when I saw her interacting with her friends who came to the door, she seemed to be bubbly around them. She seems to be a bit like our Uncle Kenny, very quite and a bit of a loner.
All of Maureen's girls are beautiful. No matter how short the visit was with each of them, we enjoyed seeing them all. We missed seeing Jeff, he was out of town in Indiana for a church mission event. He has been spending a lot of time on the road making his passion for preaching a reality. After going to Toronto this weekend coming, he is off to Brazil...if you are interested in seeing his schedule, you can visit his website at http://urbanprophet.net/Itinerary.php
Tomorrow we are off on the road again. The cats have been cooped up in the basement for the past two days so it isn't fair to them to stay much longer.
