After our adventures underground we headed up north to New Zealands largest city Auckland. With just a day to enjoy some big city pleasures (Mocha Caramelatte anyone??) we were off again heading even further north to the Bay of Islands.
Our first activity upon arriving in the town of Pahai was to hop on The Excitor..... a speed boat tour of the Bay of Islands (which is a bay full of Islands in case you were wondering..... bloody loads of them) We sped through the choppy waves at a great speed, the boat often sailing through the air before crashing down with a bone-jarring thud. Stadium rock hits were blaring over the load speakers ("Livin' on a Prayer"!!) and so we had our hands in the air singing along much to the amusement of the other passengers. The captain did a bit of nifty driving taking the huge boat inside/through a couple of caves and turning the boat with only inches to spare on each side.
The following day Little Cockles, Gemma, Lyndsey and Kimberly headed to the most Northern point of New Zealand to Cape Reinga. We took in jungle walks and a shop selling pre-historic wood furniture along the way. We then did a spot of dune-surfing which involved dragging a boogie board up a MASSIVE sand dune before throwing yourself on it and hurtling back down at breakneck speed!!. But finally arrived at our final destination, Cape Reinga. From this most northerly point you could see the meeting of two oceans, the south pacific and the Tasman Sea, as a jagged line of swirling water just off the coast. There was also a lighthouse and a sign-post but they weren't quite as exciting.... oh and we had fish'n'chips on the way home which is always nice.
We returned to Auckland with just enough time for one big piss-up before bidding a sad farewell to the girls and heading off to the tropical paradise of Fiji.......!!!
