Road-Runnerus Digestus vs Hot-Roddicus Supersonicus
Wile E. Coyote and the Road Runner. Mark Twain describes the coyote as "a long, slim, sick and sorry-looking skeleton" that is "a living, breathing allegory of Want. He is always hungry"
Today I met Wylie Simmons. No relation to the Coyote.
I woke up in the middle of the night and had another headache. Three days in a row. Then the light bulb came on. It shines quite dimly some days. Maybe that's most days. I had pizza for supper. Two days ago in San Antonio I picked up a couple of pizzas from Pizza Hut. I had Pizza Hut pizza when I was in Orlando. I had figured out when I was in Orlando that there's a connection between the pizza and my headaches. So I was supposed to stop eating it. I know...I have a short memory. So now I have a freezer full of pizza with a big sign that says, Do Not Eat!. I'm not going to throw it out and waste good pizza. Anybody for a pizza party? Pick-up only!
I have at least a 4 hour drive to my next stop. I'm heading into the mountains. The elevation change during my next day of driving will be the greatest of the trip. I decided to stay here in Brackettville for another day instead of driving with a headache and tired from not sleeping well. After paying for another day at the camp office I went back to bed. I started feeling well just before lunch. Then I notice Nick on MSN. He's in Calgary during Spring break. Next year he's planning on being in Florida during Spring Break. Wants to have the girls gone wild experience..or maybe it's the boys enjoying the girl's gone wild experience. You're only young once...go for it! He's going skiing tomorrow with my ski equipment. Skis I bought and have never used. I used the same skis for 25 years, buy new ones and never got to use them. Life is not fair! But hey, I've been enjoying plus 20 degree weather all week. Maybe there is justice in life!
At some point today I was thinking about what I wrote yesterday. All my questions. I think our souls write our script. But we are not the Director. So the Director has his own vision of how our life should be played out. Because our soul wrote the script we try playing the part the way we think our soul wrote it to be played. Remember that this Director has all these Academy Awards. He re-writes the script to make it a better life or he better understands what the soul was trying to accomplish then your own conscious self . You have a choice. Lead your life the way you think you should be living it or taking some advice from an expert on award winning lives. (OK. This is some ramblings that really don't make any sense at the moment. Call it a draft thought. I have a lot of draft thoughts. Hopefully I don't write too many here.)
Nick was meeting someone for lunch so he had to leave. That was fine. It was awesome out so I opened up the trailer awning and was getting a chair out so that I could sit in the sun and continue reading A History of God when Wylie Simmons drives by on his golf cart. The preferred mode of transport in this neighbourhood. He stops and says he likes the paint job on my truck. We start chatting and he says he's on Fort Clark's historical society committee. Asks if I would like a tour of the old Fort grounds. I said sure. He asks if I want the 5 cent or 25 cent tour. I take the 25 cent tour.
We take my truck and start driving around the old fort. We made it back to the trailer over 2 hours later. Wylie's lived here for 13 years. Was in the Marines for a few years. Did his tour, got out, tried civilian life for a couple of years, hated it, re-enlisted in the Air Force and stayed in for 30 years. Travelled the world. Loves history. Visited a friend in Fort Clark and fell in love with the place. So did I. It would be an awesome place to settle down. There's a 9 hole and an 18 hole golf course if that's what you like. Wylie doesn't. An equestrian center for those who want to horseback ride around the 2700 acre gated community. You can build your own house and hangar next to the airfield (if you have an airplane). There's also a 1 million gallon spring fed swimming pool, tennis and basketball courts, nature trails, bird sanctuary, adult and teen centers, fitness center and many other amenities.
There are different sections to the development depending on what you are looking for as accommodations. There are places in the historic buildings that you can buy or rent, there are mobile home sections, older houses, newer houses along the golf course, even an RV section where you can buy a 40 X 100 lot, build a giant canopy for your RV and then a small building as additional living quarters. Or do like a lot of these people have done and buy 2 lots and build a small house on one and keep your RV and shop on the other. I found this area so neat. For under $100 grand you have a permanent home and you take off as long as you want with your RV. Come and go as you please and don't have to worry about where you'll park your RV.
We stopped at Wylie's place. We chatted for a while. At 76 years of age and he's active on all the various committees and organizations around the community. He regularly drives through the campground to find people interested in a tour. It was great chatting with him. I would have to say that this place is the best kept secret in Texas. I found a place in the real estate section of their website that was listed at $40,000 for a 1000 sq ft house.
After that tour I passed the afternoon out in the sun reading. Then I went for a walk and met a couple from just outside Camrose Alberta. We chatted a bit. I did see another RV with Alberta plates but didn't chat with them.
The Coyote never catches the Road Runner throughout all the years the cartoons were made, except...
"However, there was one instance when Wile E. Coyote actually catches the Road Runner in the short Soup or Sonic (the chase led them through a series of pipes that grew smaller, making them insect-sized. When Wily realized this, he whistled to Roadrunner and motioned for them to go back through, which they did. Roadrunner returned to normal size, however Wily was still tiny. Amused, Roadrunner stops and Wily first jumps over his feet and keeps running, stops, and goes back to grab Roadrunner's leg and prepares to dine until he notices the enormous size difference) after which the Coyote holds up a sign that says "O.K. wise guys, you wanted me to catch him, now what am I supposed to do?""
So what do we do when we ALL figure out the Meaning of Life? It's the journey, not the destination! It's the thrill of the chase! What happens when we ALL figure it all out? Will it be Heaven on Earth? Who's definition of what Heaven is? Will it be Paradise? Who's definition of Paradise?
Nobody in over 4000 years has come up with a description of what or who God is that can be agreed on by even a minority of folks. Since we cannot describe what or who God is using "human" language, how are we going to do the same to describe what Heaven or Paradise is. The last thing I read about Paradise was that Adam & Eve were naked. In that case I'm sure Paradise is not in Canada.
The quote at the beginning is from Saint Thomas Aquinas. There is a story that when he had dictated the last sentence of the Summa, Aquinas laid his head sadly on his arms. When the scribe asked him what was the matter, he replied that everything that he had written was straw compared with what he had seen.
Most days that is how I feel. I write and write but so little of what I write seems to convey what I experience and feel.
"I yearn to understand some measure of thy truth which my heart believes and loves. For I do not seek to understand in order to have faith but I have faith in order to understand. For I believe even this: I shall not understand unless I have faith." Eleventh-century theologian Anselm of Canterbury
I'm glad I had a headache. As painful as it was, I never would have met Wylie and had a tour of Fort Clark without it.
Goodnight Irene! My Mom's name is Irene. Johnny Cash is singing this as I wrap this up. (Goodnight Mom!)
