Rhinoceros have the right of way!  NO KIDDING!

My drive to West Palm Beach. Non-stop Christmas carols on the radio. 27 degree weather...Palm trees...and Christmas songs do not go well together. Well...not for someone who grew up in Winnipeg where Christmas time is usually -30 and 3 feet of snow. After a couple of hours I had to switch on my IPod and listen to some non Christmas music. Most of the trip was uneventful with the exception of the slight detour when my GPS said to merge right due to a road name change, but because of the construction at that intersection I ended up turning right...then I hadn't the faintest idea where the GPS wanted me to go...then trying to turn around was a pain...all the roads had "No Exit" signs so I couldn't go around the block...finding a parking lot with an entrance and an exit was a pain. That crisis averted...I ended up back on the right road. Never a dull moment when you're travelling!

The campground I chose in West Palm Beach, or, actually, west of West Palm Beach in Loxahatchee was the Lion Country Safari Campground and African Wildlife Preserve Theme Park. There's 4 miles of roads through the 350 acre wildlife preserve with over 1000 animals from around the world. No the animals do not roam through the campground. Though that could make for an interesting stay! (My 4h30 am wake-up call was hearing the lions roar. Plus they came with a snooze button. Every 15 minutes or so they would start over)

My plan was to drive back into Palm Beach before supper. Now I had to decide if I preferred to do the Safari drive. But my biggest problem was that I was exhausted. For whatever reason I was extremely tired. I needed a nap. So that's what I did. I figured with an hour nap I would still be able to get into the Safari Park by the 4 PM last entry deadline. I was still exhausted after my nap so I decided to do nothing. I went to bed early. No drive through Safari!

The internet connection here was great. I had received an email from my niece's husband (Leo) about my website that he is helping design with my nephew (Stefan). They have finished programming most of the website and it is ready for my content. That means I have to spend time uploading pictures and finish writing information on certain pages. I have to figure out when to do this. As most of you should know if you've been following along is that my kids show up this weekend to spend Christmas with me and get away from the cold and snow for 10 days (They've been counting down the days). That means my time will be spent with them at Disneyworld, Universal Studios, Kennedy Space Center and the Oceanside. NO blog (well maybe a little bit) and no working on my website. The kids leave late on December 25th. I was hoping to be in Nashville for New Year's Eve.

On Sunday I had a friend, Tanya, sending me messages on Facebook who had read my comments about the Shuttle launch being scrubbed and re-scheduled. Side-note: If you want the latest scoop on where I am or what's happening you have to check out my Facebook account. One of her comments was whether it would be much of a detour to go back and see the launch in January. Then my other friend, Monique, wrote a note in my blog about things happening for a reason. Well...that is what I keep on saying.  I'm not saying the Shuttle launch got scrubbed to make my schedule work better, but I must see it as an opportunity.

I have over a month to get to New Orleans for Mardi Gras. I would like to detour through Nashville and Memphis before. Tennessee is a little cool (even cold) in January. Spending an extra week or two in Florida wouldn't be so bad. It would give me time to see the Space Shuttle launch plus give me plenty of time to work on my website and have it up and running. By then I'll have already have seen most of the East Coast of Florida and the Orlando region. The perfect opportunity to work on my website. I hope the internet connection at the campground in Orlando is as excellent as the one that was at the Safari campground. I tested uploading some pictures and it worked well. You're all going to have to wait about a month to see the website. It will be AMATHING!

I was disappointed in not seeing the Shuttle launch. I had another friend, Dawn, write me and say she was jealous that I was going to see the Shuttle launch as it was one of the items on her "must do" in her life list. It was something I really wanted to see. The moral of the story. If things don't work out as planned there is a reason. We never know when that reason will be explained. So wait and see. Something will happen sooner or later that will make that planned event happen even better or something completely unexpected will happen in its place that will be superior.

Not going to the moon!
I'm sorry the shuttle launch got cancelled, I know it was going to be a highlight of your trip. But as you say, everything for a reason!

It's good to follow your travels, keeps us warm up here where we've had tons of snow and it is quite cold. Xmas will be very...white!

All is good here, I fired my annoying clients so I have more free time on my hands (to do Xmas, pack the house, organize moving my hot-tub, piano and entire household, run my business, work for my other clients, do some health research, start working out, do some holiday baking, oh, and stay vaguely sane!).

You seem to be having a fabulous travel-scape. The pics are fantastic, you should really think about publishing some type of compilation of the best. I'm glad you liked Charleston and Savannah, I had really enjoyed myself there.

Anyways, better run and scrape the car while it warms up (I thought I'd throw that in for you to savour the nice weather you must be having!). Take care and keep up the travel journal, the rest of us can travel vicariously through you!

Nique
