By late Friday the news was that the Space Shuttle would make an attempt to take off on Sunday. That meant I had all day Saturday to do as I please and most of Sunday. Saturday morning I had to move my trailer to a new spot. To the one behind the one I was in. Somebody was coming in later Saturday and had reserved the spot I was in. I asked at the office if they could put the newcomers in a different spot. They said they had this huge trailer and would need my spot. The spot I moved to didn't seem much smaller. After all the packing up and unpacking I decided to hit the beach and do some reading (and people watching). I headed to Daytona Beach. I took the Interstate instead of the local highway I took on Friday. The speed limit is 70....I was doing 80...and I was still constantly being passed...even by large trucks.

I get to Daytona and I drove down the beach to find a spot that wouldn't be in the shadows as the sun moved being the tall buildings. I got my book out and put my headphones on to listen to my IPod. I read for a while....occasionally watching people walk, ride, or drive by. The sun is moving behind me and I want to turn around, so instead of having my back to the action on the beach I move my chair onto a sandbar next to the water. A while later the water is lapping at my feet. I move back next to the truck. I watch as the water slowly creeps up to the traffic lane. As I mentioned yesterday, I don't think this beach would be very good to lay on when it's very busy. You could get run over. As it starts getting dark I head back to the trailer.

When I get to my trailer I notice the newcomers in my old spot. It 's a tent trailer that's about half the size of mine. So much for the campground people trying to be accommodating. Someone just didn't know how to read their reservation system. I watch a movie Saturday night.

Sunday....Launch Day! I lay in bed till about 8. No rush to get up. The launch isn't until after 3. I get the internet up and running. Check the NASA Shuttle news site. "Shuttle Launch Aborted" As they were fuelling the rockets the sensors malfunctioned. Launch to be re-scheduled for January 2nd ...at the earliest. I was so sure the launch was going to happen I paid for my site until Monday. The campground empties out. I chat with a campground attendant and they tell me 44 sites checked-out. Nobody was checking in.

I decide to go for a bike ride. I ride up the highway the campground is on for about 5 kms. I find a park with a boat launch. There are some water ways within the marsh areas. I check out the water and see an alligator lurking. I keep my distance. Back at the campground I decide to go for a swim in the pool and catch some rays. I bring my book to read. Spend the afternoon by the pool. Go grocery shopping after supper.

That was my weekend! Disappointed...because I didn't see a Space Shuttle launch. I have to decide whether I stick around after Christmas to see if the shuttle does launch in early January.
