Palm Springs to Phoenix. A nice, easy, drive. A lot of uphill, but not too much stress on the truck.

The plan was to tent at a KOA just past Phoenix in Mesa and do some laundry. I still have all my RawHyde week clothing to wash and I can smell it a mile away. I'm driving through Phoenix just after 3 PM and the temperature is in the 30's C. Maybe it's a little warm for camping and the cost difference for a hotel isn't much. I turn off the Interstate when I see a sign for a local hotel. I drive, and drive, and drive (about 3 miles) and no hotel. Stop for gas.

I picked up a booklet with all the Motel 6's listed in Palm Springs. I've already passed the Phoenix ones and the next one in the general direction I'm heading is in Globe. Check the terrain on the map and it looks fairly flat. It's also still early and another hour of driving wouldn't be so bad.

Off I go. The highway out of Mesa turns to 2 lane blacktop. Then the elevation starts changing. Sign says, Turn A/C off for next 10 miles. Crap! There's going to be more uphill then I had wanted.

I get stuck behind a semi going slow on the uphills and slower on the downhills. I decide to follow it. Might as well blame it for slowing down the traffic that's behind us. The engine and transmission  temperatures are getting higher and higher. Pass a couple of broken down cars on the side of the road. Then I pass a Huey Helicopter parked on the side of the highway with an oil leak. Now that's a sight you don't see everyday.

Onwards and upwards towards the town of Globe. I pass through the town of Top of The World. Been there before, but in Switzerland. Get to Globe and go around to the far end of town where I see the hotel.

So, today I passed over "the" Top of The World then circle "the" Globe to arrive at my stopover. Unfortunately, as this blog is titled, I'm still looking for "the" Ends of The Earth. Hopefully one day soon I'll find it.

I check in at the hotel and the clerk indicates where the laundry room is. Hmmm? Rarely have I found hotels/motels with laundry facilities. How did I end up at one on the very day I was planning on doing laundry. And people STILL don't believe me when I say I get all that I ask for and need.

Think It! Feel It! Live It!

PS. Later in the evening the Huey Helicopter showed up. It was on a flat bed trailer when the truck broke down. I spoke with the truck driver. The helicopter had had an oil leak and was set down at some airport. He was hauling it for his employer who repairs them.
