Yes...I GAVE up!

I was tired of saying, "Just one more hill!" or, "I'm sure it's just around the corner!"

I kept on going, not knowing when I would arrive, if I would arrive, or whether I would run out of energy before I got to my destination.

Today I gave up!

I stopped my hike to the Maynard Mine in Indian Canyon before I arrived there. I turned around and went back to where I came.

I hadn't planned on doing this hike today. I went for a bike ride this morning and arrived at the gate to the Agua Caliente Indian Reservation and Indian Canyons. Turned around and finished my bike ride after 30kms, had lunch, then decided to go visit the Canyons and take some pictures (a sign said no commercial photography-but what's the definition of commercial photography? I haven't sold a picture yet, so am I a commercial photographer????). I had no idea what was there...just that it was on my to-do list.

I grabbed my cameras and figured I'd start the climb of one of the many trails that are located here. I didn't bring a water bottle. Figured I'd only do a mile, or so, of the 3 miles to the mine as I would climb the mountain taking pictures for your viewing pleasure (none will be posted on my website to sell). After a 30km bike ride where I had pushed myself I didn't think I'd have much energy to hike very far, especially uphill. Off I went.

"Hey, this is easier then I figured. My legs haven't turned to rubber yet." So I continued. On and on...and on. "OK, Now I'm getting tired! It must be just over the next crest." NOT!!!!!

After 4 or 5 times of saying/doing this, I gave up. I was getting thirsty and was getting tired. I was properly hydrated after my bike ride and the temperature was only around 20 degrees C, with a cool breeze. I may be stubborn, but I'm not stupid (OK. No comments from the peanut gallery).

Before I forget I must mention something. On the way up I had stopped and decided to meditate (it was a very peaceful and serene place). Sitting cross legged overlooking the valley, I'm meditating and I asked Spirit/God for a sign about my journey, and then my Blackberry dinged, I had received an email. I check and it's from my friend Theresa back in Calgary. More on what the sign was in a future entry.

I'm quite sure the Maynard Mine was "just around the NEXT corner" and I could have made it. But why? What was I trying to prove? I had had a great and enjoyable hike. I was doing something I hadn't planned on doing and it was definitely not something I was prepared for.

I went further then I had expected and planned. I did do a 30km bike ride plus this 10km hike (5 up, 5 down) today. Success in my books.

Now, how does this compare to my life journey?

Very similar, there always seems to be another crest or corner to round, but I haven't quit!
