Chose between the following camp spots on Prince Edward Island...

a) Cavendish KOA

b) Charlottetown - Southport RV Park

c) Woodstock - Mill River Provincial Park

d) Brudenell River Provincial Park

Central north...central south...west island...east island

I'd like to call a friend...

Last night I chatted with Nick and Louise (my ex). Alexis has a friend on the east coast (East Point, though they say they live near Souris) that she met 3 years ago when she and Louise visited Louise's pen-pal, Denise. Alexis friend is Denise's daughter (Emily). Alexis wants to spends a few days with Emily. Louise and her boyfriend, John, are currently in Cape Breton touring. Louise wants to visit Denise since she's so close (if you call a different Province, an hour and a half ferry ride and 120 kilometre drive down winding roads, close).

Problem or issue #1. Nick is driving from Halifax to PEI in his friend's car which he has to drop off in Ottawa next week before flying to Calgary (his friend broke both arms a couple of weeks ago when he was trying some stunt on a motorcycle in Halifax). Nick doesn't want to follow me all week in the car so we are trying to find a central spot near the Confederation Bridge to park the car for the week and I'd drive him back to it next Friday when he heads to Ottawa.

Problem or issue #2. Louise and John are behind schedule and won't be visiting the Island as planned. Louise wants to know if we could pick her up on Tuesday at the Wood Island Ferry from Nova Scotia if she's a foot passenger and drive her to Denise's and back to the ferry (almost 2 hours each way).

Side note: Paul's tire saga continues...called one tire shop in Charlottetown this morning...haven't carried Falken tires in 2 years. Called second tire shop...success...stop in and he'll order the tire...s/b in early next week.

Start drive from Gagetown. Stop at Tim Horton's as we arrive in Moncton, New Brunswick. The place is a zoo. A half hour to get a cup of coffee. Last night there was an AC/DC concert in Moncton with 170,000 people (or so). I think they all need coffee this morning before driving home. Traffic through and leaving Moncton is worse than Calgary's rush hour traffic. We drive for a couple of hours and arrive at the west side of the Confederation Bridge. (photo ops)

Cross bridge and stop at PEI tourist information booth for campground information for around Charlottetown.

I'd like to use the 50/50 lifeline...

b) Charlottetown

d) unidentified Points East campground

I had called the Brudenell River Provincial Park this morning and they had a ball tournament this weekend and so there was "NO VACANCY"!

The tourist information booth suggests a motel/campground across the river from Charlottetown. I call and leave a message as no one answers.

I'd like to poll the audience...

Off to the auto parts store. Find it without too much trouble. Lucky for us there's an empty lot across the street to park the truck and trailer. Order the tire...s/b in on Monday...they don't do installation...need to find a tire shop. Ask them about campgrounds. They mention one across river. I say I've already left a message. They call and get some strange noise in the receiver. Mention I'd like something on the east side of the Island. The store owner mentions a place he was at a while ago that was very nice. Mid point (more or less) between the ferry and Souris. He calls and there's a vacancy at the Seal Cove Campground. We're on our way...almost....

I'm not a millionaire, but I got the answer I needed...

They give us direction to get out of town...turn right at the next street...then left...then right again until the bridge out of Charlottetown. We turn right and what do I see...an OK Tire shop. Perfect...pick-up the tire and get it installed just around the block...I'm also due for an oil change and tire rotation.

...on our way...again...NOT. We need groceries...the cupboard is bare. Drive over the bridge and wide open spaces...oops...we're out of Charlottetown...guess groceries will wait...but NO...turn a corner and there's a Sobey's grocery store. Nick's going to be around for the week. We better stock up. He probably eats more than Alexis and I, combined.

Get to the campground. We have a choice...middle of the campground or ocean front? Now that's a no-brainer. Ocean front it is. I decide to make this base camp for the week while touring the east side of the island. I also get a free night of camping. Woohoo! There's one negative. There's no internet and data transmission on my iPhone is negligible. Guess my outstanding blog entries will have to wait.

Call Nick. He's at the ferry waiting to hear where to meet us. This place is perfect. He can leave the car here while we tour the east side of the island and leave from here next Friday.

Paul's tire saga...a continuing story that may never end. Stay tuned.
