Where I stayed
My drive to Calais was a quick one. I left the hotel a little later than I wanted to and had to actually drive the speed limit on the highway to make sure I made the 9h45 ferry to Dover. Once I got off the ferry I took the shortest route for about half the distance to London and then took the fastest route after that as I didn't want to end up driving on some downtown London side streets.Driving on the wrong side of the highway wasn't so bad. Only one wrong turn once I was in London. Luckily there was no oncoming traffic. The hotel I'm staying at is smack dab in the middle of the stuff I want to see. Actually, I'm quite close to Buckingham Palace. Considering that I picked the cheapest hotel room that wasn't in the suburbs I think I did quite well.
After hanging all my stuff to dry and towelling off I looked outside and realized that I could see blue sky
I wandered around and saw Hyde Park, Kensington Palace, Royal Albert Hall, the Diana Memorial Fountain and whole lot of streets and buildings. It spat for a while, then it cleared up, then more rain, then it stopped, then the taps opened up. Exactly when I was trying to find my way back to the hotel and was going cross-country (zig-zagging in the general direction of where I thought I should be going). I had my umbrella but the rain was falling so hard every part of me was still soaked. Hopefully some stuff dries off by tomorrow.
It's getting late, so that's all you get. Tomorrow the plan is to head east and see what I see before running out of energy.
