Day 20 Clayton New Mexico to Guymon, Oklahoma 107.5 miles 2546 ft climbing.

Our ride today was what I imagined riding across America would be like.  Straight roads dissecting wheat fields, blue sky, warm sunshine, little traffic. Cycling rhythmically together in what George Hincapie calls a "no chain" day.

The day didn't begin so harmoniously.  We had a rotten night's sleep.  I'd just got rid of the insect bites from Seligman and acquired a new batch which kept me scratching and then the cross-country freight trains passed by the motel tooting horns throughout the night.  We both felt sluggish and tired.

At lunch a jogger passed by.  This was extraordinary in itself as you just don't see people outside in these parts.  It was a girl called Kelsey Harrison who is jogging from New York to San Fransisco raising money for lung cancer.  And she just happened to be the daughter of a friend of Dr Tom Krummel, our fellow rider.  To cross paths on a road in Oklahoma was an amazing coincidence.

Just watching the first presidential debate between Romney and Obhama.  Both are doing well so far....

Tomorrow is another defining day on the trip.  The forecast is for cool weather and strong head winds and we have 127 miles to go.  We are all anxious to see if there will be any casualties.  I just hope it's not me.
