Valencia to Victorville 89.1 miles

My ass is on fire. We start at 6.30 a.m. and as I sit down I can feel this is going to be a day of agony.  I am gulping breath, crying as I ride, hoping no one can see me when bang David hits the deck.  He'd run over a raised cat’s eye which are not just in the middle of the road but dotted along the side too.  He’s grazed and dazed.  Jesus are we going to have to abandon on day 2?

He gets up, gets patched up and on we go.  He's tough! The first challenge of the day is a 20 mile climb uphill.  This proved to be the best part of the day as we rode mainly in shade and the gradient was gentle.  Lunch at 10.30 a.m. and I was feeling OK though still unable to eat.  The road surface then turned from bad to appalling and the pain as we bumped over broken lumps of tarmac on my arse had me squirming in the saddle.  The sun was up, I was cycling poorly.  I felt sick.  The last 15 miles were purgatory and I had to stop every two miles to cool down and recover.  Dave one of the Trek guides rode with us and he got me through the day.  I was exhausted on arrival, showered and fell asleep for 2 hours.  My Ki-fit showed I’d used just short of 5,000 calories yesterday but must only have eaten 1,000.  I’m not going to make it unless I can sort this out.  David eating like Henry VIII and had a much better day.
