I worked on Friday, so I allowed mom & dad to rest up that day.  :)  So, on Saturday we headed up to Wiesbaden.  According to Wikipedia, "While evidence of settlement at present-day Wiesbaden dates back to the Neolithic era, historical records document continuous occupancy after the erection of a Roman fort in 6 A.D. which housed an auxiliary cavalry unit."  What I also had learned from my German teacher was that Wiesbaden was not damaged during the war because Gen. Patton liked the town and this is where he wanted his headquarters to be after the war so they didn't bomb the town.

We timed it so that we would get to the Protestant Marktkirche (market church), built 1852-1862, so that we could listen to the organ concert at 11:30 and see them play a glockenspiel at the church.  However, when we got there we were unable to enter the church because they were filming something for tv there.  We got pictures on the outside, but unfortunately we didn't see anything on the inside.  We did see the oldest building there, which is the old city hall which was built in 1609.  It was the only remaining building after fires in 1547 and 1561 destroyed the older buildings.  We also saw a Catholic Church, St. Bonifatius which was built 1845-1849.

Another great Christmas market.  You know you can't go wrong with shopping and food available all down the streets.  It was still near freezing, so we were bundled up and prepared for our day outdoor.  In order to get indoors we went ahead and saw a lego display.  Pretty impressive displays, I don't think I have the patience for something like that.  Another piece of architecture was the Waterloo Obelisk commemorating those that lost their lives in the battles against Napoleon.
