Sofia and me took a "route taxi" from Tijuana to Rosarito. A "route taxi" is basically a station wagon loaded down with as many people as the taxi driver can fit. We were packed in like sardines. But I enjoyed a chance to hang out with some local folks and at $1.50 per person it sure beats paying $30 for a regular cab to Rosarito.

We checked into the Hotel Brisas Del Mar for $60 per night. It had clean rooms, a pool and a restaurant which served a very good breakfast. We then walked down Blvd Juarez, stopping for some drinks at Rock and Roll Taco. Afterwards we headed down to the beach. I knew the water was going to be cold. But, wow, the cold shock I experienced upon first plunging into the water was so intense I felt like my spine was separating from the rest of my body. I stayed in the water another 5-10 minutes, hoping my body would adjust to the temperature. But it was just flat out too cold. So I scampered back up to my beach towel, while my wife enjoyed a good laugh. Brr!!! By the way, I swam at Venice Beach in Los Angeles with no problem a few days later. But apparently Rosarito is substantially colder due to ocean currents or something. I don't really know for sure but would be curious to find out. In any case, my point is don't come to Rosarito looking for a relaxing dip in the ocean unless you are a member of some masochistic group like the "Polar Bear Club." We ate a snack at one of the beach side restaurants. But we didn't feel like sunbathing and there wasn't much else to do. So we returned to the hotel for an afternoon rest.

At night we headed back to Blvd Juarez for dinner. We stopped at a restaurant with a rustic appearance and some birds inside. I can't remember the name. But they served a unique menu based on "wild game" which they raised on a nearby farm. The dishes available included deer, quail and rabbit. I chose the rabbit, since it was something I had never eaten before. It was fairly tasty but with too many bones to pick through, probably not something I would eat again. Being a Monday night, not too much was happening. But we did stop off at a small outdoor bar to end the night. The powerful speakers belted out "My Milkshake" and similar songs while a few people danced and the couple at the next table passionately embraced - a fun and amusing enough scene I suppose.

We only spent one night in Rosarito. We had a good time there. But with an ocean too cold to swim in and one street full of bars, restaurants and overpriced souvenirs, we felt we had pretty much seen the town. So the next day we moved on to Ensenada.
