So it was with the recommendation of a local cafe owner in Kobylisy, we headed off to Harrachov.  We took the Metro from kobylisy to Muzeum, changed to Cerny Most (strange desolate place) and caught a bus to Jablonec nad Nizou, and after paying 10 Kc for a pee, we caught a little bus that took us straight into Harachov - only 4/5 miles from the Polish border.  There were 8 foot snowdrifts all around us - tremendous, I'd never seen so mch snow!
We headed into the first building in front of us (Rotunda) and promptly booked up (with very helpful staff) for a stay in the Penzion Klondajk at 85 Euros for 4 nights, breakfast included - what a bargain!   We had a double loft room, with a shared kitchen, toilet and shower - all immaculate!
We were no more than 5 minutes walk to the nursery slopes - and I certainly needed them, I was useless and kept falling over, whilst Huw took to it like a duck to....  well you know the saying!!  My advice - wear a helmet!.... at the end of day one I took a bad fall and thought someone had hit me with a sledgehammer (reality check!!).  I spent the next few days photographing Huw fullfilling an ambition to snowboard!
Day 2: I was filming Huw who had now self-graduated to the 'blue' run.  I was in awe as he glided his way down towards me only to be wiped out by someone's grandad!  Then after regaining his stance, he glided across the slope, only to promptly take out this child - who'd been flying straight down the mountain on his carvers - his mother wasn't amused, and Huw quietly made his way back onto the nursery slopes to finish his holiday!!!!
I have to say, looking up at the ski jumps, it was incredible to think that people actually hurl themselves off - I can only liken it to flying off a skyscraper - I know Huw is itching to try it - I must up his insurance!
