This will be a short and totally sweet blog from Picton in the Marlborough Sounds at the top of the South Island at the start of my journey all the way down then all the way up the island.
On Wednesday afternoon, I drove into Wellington once again and stayed at the great YHA in the centre of town as I did last time. The weather was appalling, cold n heavy rain so I didn't do much that evening, mind you I had driven almost non-stop for 5 hours!
The weather had changed completely on Thursday (still cold though) so I had a really pleasant walk around the CBD, had coffee then more coffee - all very nice!
Sara, my friend in the photography group in Auckland had arrived in town and phoned me to join her and her girlfriends (they had arrived for a few days doing girly things) in............a bar on the waterfront!
Later Sara and I split from the crowd and went walking and photographing random stuff by the harbour. Sara is a fantastic portrait photographer (http://www.flickr.com/photos/sara-e-nilsson/ , check her out!) For some unfathomable reason she concentrated her skills on me! apparently my eyes and eyebrows are very photogenic!! Not so sure meeself!! When it got too dark we went to the Intercontinental and had a really really lovely chat........thanks, Sara! x
On Friday, I took the Interislander (car ferry) to Picton, a 3 hour sailing made all the more palatable as I treated myself to the Premium Plus lounge for wealthy people! Of course I'm not wealthy but you gotta live a little don't ya!!! Once you get in there, everything is free! Free food, free wine, free everything!! What a life style! Yup! I'll be doing that again on my way back to the north! Yessiree!!
So here I am in bitterly cold Picton in a rather good YHA with.......and wait for it......my very first en-suite room! I only got this cos apparently a german couple were in the room I would have had last night but had smuggled in a baby and there were lots of used nappies around or something, at least that's what the rather nutty manager told me! ha! ha!
Tomorrow I will drive to Nelson for a few days and see what goes
Till next time, my friends!

Yay! Thank you, Clive, it was so much fun catching up. I'll see you when you get back to Auckland--I came back just half an hour ago!
