Alas, I have come to the end of my last day in Wonderful Wellington! I leave her with a heavy heart and a lighter wallet! But she was worth it! A fine city but do not fear friends! Do not! For I shall return one day! In fact it will be June when I return South to cross the Cook Strait and head on to the South Island and then again on the way back North in August/September or when the dosh runs out! So there will be no tears, no no!
So what did I get up to yesterday, I visited the zoo which is the first zoo in NZ but it wern't much good really, quite small and boring, but I got some good pics (on the look-out for some behavioural shots - my photo friends will know what I mean), but not sure I got any lol. Got the bus back & visited Te Papa again and concentrated on everything Maori which I find really interesting! They got a great expo there!
At night I got pissed and fell asleep! NO! I didn't honest! I socialised with some foreigners in the communal lounge in the hostel and got pissed with them instead.....then fell asleep!
Today, I got up early and took a really long walk along the waterfront, this time to the left of the hostel, past my car (I didn't tell you before, but I have to park about 10 mins walk from the hostel, past the swimming pool (for those who know Wellington) cos there's no parking at the hostel (at a price) so I need to check all is kosher every morning, so far I have amassed 3 blue chalk marks on me tires! I'm sooo proud! But the buggers can't get me, cos I paid!
It was a truely lovely day today, the sun was bright, and the air was clear (I like to be poetic when I can) so that meant that there were a lot of people about (being Sunday n' all). There was also a couple of meat markets on the waterfront which was very hustlly-bustly and selling loads of cooked and lovely-smelling meats. I didn't eat anything as I'm on one of my flash-diets, Bugger! I'll get into trouble for saying that!) Also, quite interestingly, a fishing boat was nearby filleting and selling fish caught this morning - how cool is that?? (see photos).
I came back to my room and had a shave in the communal bathroom (I'm getting used to this way of life.......just) to prepare for my night on the town. I'm off with non-English speaking Suzanne for a Ruby Murray in Cuba Street (Where it's at sister!)
So! Tomorrow I'm on the road again (I haven't actually driven at all for the whole week I've been here) and heading north-east to Napier via Hastings, (4-hour drive) where I've booked 5 nights in another YHA hostel on the beachfront.
My next musings will be from there....
Goodbye from Wellington
