On Friday, my friends from auckland, Carol, Alan, Olivia & Sarah took on the might of the world-famous Tongariro Alpine Crossing. This is a 19km (12 miles) walk between Mt Tongariro & Mt Ngauruhoe (Mount Doom!)
We started at 8.30am and finished 10 hours later! It was very cold & wind but at least it didn't rain which was a blessing! The steep ascents were the hardest parts and some of the descents were tricky to say the least but the scenery was breathtaking especially when the cloud cleared from the mountain summits. The famous Emerald lakes & Blue lake was well worth the journey & I especially loved the Red Rocks at the top before we got down to the lakes.
We finished at 6.00pm and drove back to the holiday park where I rested my weary bones in the Chateaux bar!
