We arrived in Havana, Cuba just after midnight in the early hours of the 3rd January with no where to stay. In broken Espanol and English we managed to find a place with a family which were more than willing to accomodate us at such a late/early hour :-) Our luck was soon to run out when our travelex cards did not work. We wondered the streets for days with very little food and water attemping our best to try and get our hands on money. Every bank, atm, financal centre, hotel would refuse us, and we could not figure out why. It was getting very desperate on the 3rd day and we were getting very worried, as we didn't have an exit ticket out of Cuba paid. (Dont ask how we got passed customs with this :-P ). Matty went digging through his backpack and a halo surrounded his head when he pulled out a Credit card!
La Habana (or Havana as we English speaking people say), is very interesting. Old Havana is a must to see for its absolutely amazing architecture! Everything is 1950!! and untouched... Literally - the streets, buildings have not been cleaned or washed since then, and all the cars are from the same era, which is beautiful to see, but not to smell as they all spit out pockets of blue gas through their exhaust pipes... Santeria religion here is meant to take up most of the people's life, and this also is the birth place for where Salsa evolved, from the beating of crates by late night shift workers on the docks...
Vinale's will come next, which is a beautiful place hidden away in the Cuban mountains - cant wait to tell you all about that!
I'll write ALOT more next time, when i have time and money...
