Well i arrived in Amsterdam yesturday and I really need to make this short entry as this place is unforgetable. We rocked up at the station with no place to go, so we headed straight to the tourist office. "Cheapest place in town thanks" we said to the bloke working behind the counter. He pretty much laughed at us, as it was a saturday night and nothing was available. So we ended up about 25 - 30 minutes from 'Centraal' station. Thats ok, coz its alot quicker than it was in London and Paris sometimes. Was like a 4 star hotel discounted due to last minute bookings, so about 40 Euro (60 AUD) which is a tad more than planned, but its our fault for not booking. Ah well over and done with now, as dorms here are like 25 - 30 euro per night anyhow. The hotel was the Raddison, and crazy at that. When we walked in our room it had "Welcome Clinton Burkinshaw to the Radisson" on the screen (my name if you were wondering...) so very posh...

Once we caught the train the Amsterdam Centraal we stepped out of the main station at around 6pm and just had to laugh and curse. As it was just crazy. So many people everywhere. Now people say Amsterdam is crazy, but i dont think you can actually grasp it untill you see the city on a saturday night. Its crazy alright... 20 minutes into walking around we had been offered cocaine twice and ecstasy a few times also. People pretty much on every corner offering some kind of hard drug. This is the main area anyhow. There are heaps of T-shirts in shops here. I'm gonna get one, as its only 15 Euro. After walking around for a while ya got to see so many wierd shops. Every block has multiple infamous 'Coffee Shops' on them. Will head into one over the next couple of nights. We got some fries (which i'd call chips back home) as i associate fries with the small skinny version of chips. Was quite nice - but hard to eat in its triangular holder.

Hour or 2 later of walking around and exploring this wierd and wonderful city. we went into an internet cafe. haha now, i thought this guy was joking but he wasnt. It is compulsary to drink a beer while your using the internet. I'm not sure what the place was called but so typical for amsterdam hey! Finally had the chance to write some emails as it was only 1 euro for 40 minutes, cheap compared to previouse countries. After more walking around we bought a bottle of wine and a 6 pack of Carlsburg for the night. Ended up quite a tad drunk laughed my head off on the train home because, you know how when the train makes a beep or a few beeps before the person talks to you letting you know what stop is next. On the train from Centraal Station of amsterdam it just starts cranking techno music for 10 seconds before the lady speaks. HAHA!!! i thought it was a mistake at first but sure enough the beats start cranking again before next station. Was funny as and such in character of the city.

My first thoughts is that this place is very sketchy but absolutely awesome at the same time. I'll write more in a day or 2 once i've seen the place a bit more. I'm looking forward tos eeing and experience it. "Dag" (goodbye) for now...
