Where I stayed
Roadrunner RV Park
Yesterday we had heavy rain and thunderstorms; I don't think it stopped raining for nearly 24 hours, and it was so cold! We had to have a bucket under the A/C unit all day as rain was coming in.
This morning when Cliff got outside all the truck doors were frozen shut; the temperature had fallen below freezing overnight. We eventually got organized and set off for Oklahoma City. As you cross the state line into Oklahoma it says 'Discover the Excellence'. Well, there is nothing excellent about their roads; there was roadworks on the I-40 most of the way, and when the road was clear the surface was very bumpy and we were shaken about most of the day. We stopped at one of the rest areas, so far the best we have been in; there was free coffee and a lovely lady who plied us with brochures and information about Oklahoma.
Once we were set up at the RV park, and had put everything upright again in the trailer, we decided on a quick visit to the National Cowboy and Western Heritage Museum, and the Oklahoma Railroad Museum. The Cowboy Museum was really interesting, and as well as a wealth of information about various aspects of the cowboys and Indians, they have beautiful gardens with statues, and small rivers and waterfalls. We would have stayed much longer if we had had the time, but we are only staying here overnight.
When we returned to the campsite Cliff climbed onto the roof of the trailer to check the leak. He could see where there is a problem, and after advice from a neighbouring camper, hopefully he has been able to fix it from inside. I'm sure it won't be long until we find out; tomorrow we are heading south into Texas where it's supposed to be warmer, but I don't think it's going to be any drier!
Oklahoma is the end of the Trail of Tears; it is where all the 39 Indian Nations were settled under the Indian Removal Act of 1830
