Day 2 we caught the train to the old, old capital, Nara.  In Nara we hired an English speaking guide who took us around the various sites of the Nara Park - again temples and shrines but this time in a beautiful park setting, complete with very protected, very pushy deer.  The co-existence of Buddhist temples and Shinto shrines together is interesting.
