We are in top spirits tonight as we have just seen the results of the latest Ashes test on the TV in the bar…well done boys! :)

We’ve spent the last two days close to the beach and pool, and exploring the local shops/market - and getting used to being millionaires in Rupiah (they could really do with re-valuing their currency… £ 1 = 15,000 Rph! This is made even more confusing by most of the prices being shown in US Dollars. Doesn‘t seem very logical to me!)

On Saturday evening we walked to Bali Collection - an open-air shopping mall come multitude of eating establishments. I ordered a ‘Shell n Fin’ dish which consisted of prawns, a fillet of Marlin and a whole crab. It was very yummy although very filling and made the walk home a bit slower! Mum had chicken wrapped in banana leaves - a local dish recommended to us. We have yet to wander into the centre of the local village because we aren’t sure just how spicy the food is. Dad is keen to try it but I’m not sure if I would cope… !

Today we went to an Elephant Sanctuary in Taro (for those who know Bali…?!) where there are 29 Sumatran elephants. We rode elephants on safari through the local jungle. It was a bizarre sensation as they walked really slowly and with every step they took you lurched to the side. But it was great fun and would definitely do it again! At the end of the safari “Nupcik” walked into the bathing pond and consequently sprayed water over us…lovely! We also got to feed some of the elephants. New to the Sanctuary were two baby elephants, born just over two and a half months ago. We got to see them run around and look rather mischievous! They came up close to where we were standing so we got to stroke them… I really wanted to bring one home but think I would have been charged for excess baggage! (and we don’t have 250kg of bananas and leaves to feed them per day!) The proud elephants keepers at the sanctuary liked to remind us of the famous visitors that had been there, including David and Victoria Beckham, but we didn’t spot any famous faces while we were there. They hadn’t seem to have heard of my dad… haha!

Hopefully there are some photos on here of us with the elephants but I haven’t completely got to grips with the website yet so maybe not…

I have to say that today has been a top day, despite the almost constant smell of elephant poo.

Hi Deb, Kim & Fliss,
Glad you are there safely and that you've had a great day with the elephants.
Good that you've heard the news about the Ashes - John and I spent the day at Lords yesterday, which was unexpected and fab! Broady bowling out Ponting was a particular highlight!
Anyway, keep having fun and I look forward to reading about more of your adventures.
Much love x

Hi, You sound as if you're having an amazing adventure. You look very grand on the elephant Deb, I can imagine you as a lady, back in the thirties, making your way to a vey grand house with servants! If you're doing the camel trail at Uluru, it's a bit like being on safari! Well done Fliss (presumably) - am loving reading your blog. Lots of love xx

Hi Deb, Kim and Fliss
Karen, the Techno-phobe, has for the first time ever looked at a travel blog! It is brilliant and we are so pleased you are already having a superb time. The elephant sanctuary sounds out of this world and Emma and I loved looking at you on the elephant safari. I'll show John the photo tomorrow and see what he says about Kim on the elephant! Hope you continue to have a great time. With loads of love, Karen, John, Emma, Mark, Paul and Tim xx
