Where I stayed
In other Clare news, a few friends and I officially booked our spring break plans. I will be spending four days in Istanbul and the next five on a beach in Turkey and then come back to Istanbul for a day and fly back to Amman. I’m really stoked about our trip. Also mid terms are coming up so, just like in the States, I will be studying a ton in the next week or so to hopefully do well.
I love and miss you all,
This week has been rather uneventful expect for the ghost that seems to be chilling in our apartment. Our apartment has always been creepy at night when it's windy because it comes in through the vent in the bathroom and randomly shuts the door. However this past week has been full of several encounters of random things breaking that we now joke that a ghost is trying to get rid of us. It first started when our heat wouldn’t turn on. Turns out we just had to flick the switch on the break box and it started working fine after that. The next encounter was when my roommate Olivia tried to take a shower one morning. I was just sitting out in the living room drinking coffee all the sudden I hear this explosion thing, Olivia scream, and a splash of water hit the floor. As I rushed to that bathroom to figure out what happened, Olivia comes out in her towel and tells me the boiler in the bathroom exploded right as she was about to get in the shower. We stood there and watched a bunch of water hit the floor for a good five minutes. Our guard’s solution to this problem was just removing the boiler, so now our bathroom has no boiler but we still get hot water from the heater. While this sounds very unfortunate, and it was, this entire situation was quite hilarious; even now I am laughing as I write this and I die laughing any time I tell the story. The next day the entire buildings power went out; luckily the girls from our program that live next to us had a bunch of candles and we hung out over there until it came back on. On Saturday, the day after that, we ran out of petrol so we had no heat and no hot water. This wouldn’t have been a big deal if it hadn’t been the one day it was cold we didn’t have heat. This situation was also hilarious though because both water incidences happened on Olivia’s shower days so she was forced to wash her hair in the sink for those two days and didn’t get a hot shower until Monday. The next day when we thought nothing else could break, I was standing in front of the stove while Olivia was cooking Mac and Cheese and the knob just popped off. With a little fiddling and clever improving on my part I put it back on and it still works most of the time. In sha allah, nothing else seems to be broken and the "ghost" seems to be okay with us living here.
