I arrived in Curitiba around 7pm, after seeing some nice jungle scenery and watching a spectacular sunset. I always seem to catch the most incredible sunsets from bus windows! My hostel, Hostel Roma, is only 400 meters from the terminal so getting there was quite easy. I was exhausted, not having slept in quite awhile, and although the emptiness of the hostel creeped me out a bit I was SO glad to have a dorm room all to myself! There must be at most five people staying there, and it is a decent sized place. After a good night´s sleep, I felt refreshed and ready to be productive! Ran some errands in the morning, and then spent the afternoon seeing several attractions around the city via a special tourist bus--not the kind you are thinking of, with guides etc, but instead a simple bus that makes a three hour loop, hitting all the main points of interest every half hour. I timed it perfectly, beginning in the Botanical Gardens just as the sun came out and ending with a lovely Park with a tower, from which I watched a gorgeous sunset. Met a nice guy from Zurich and chatted with him on the way back. It was nice to be on my own for a bit, but good company is always welcome! Tomorrow I am moving on to Ilha do Mel, via the Serra Verde Express train that travels through the jungle down to the coast. Well, at least it does on Sundays. Sadly tomorrow it only takes me to Morretes, from where I will have to catch a bus to Paranagua and then a boat to the island. Getting back is going to be incredibly complicated (my next destination after Ilha do Mel is Paraty up north), involving a boat ride and potentially four different (and some very long) bus rides, but I am trying NOT to think about that right now! One bus or train ride at a time...
