Where I stayed
I once again woke up at 5 am and couldn't fall back asleep, so I decided to rewrite my itinerary taking into account the Patagonia tour that my parents just booked for us. I think it makes a bit more sense now, at least in that I am not backtracking as much in Brazil. I have a little time to kill before I catch my bus to Uyuni so I thought I would update you all with my revisions. This is entirely subject to change, as always, and may not be super accurate as I have no clue when buses leave etc but at least I have a rough outline of what I will be up to for the next four or five months in case any of you decide to head south or just feel like keeping track of me.
*Wednesday, 11/29: Potosi to Uyuni, leave 12:30 pm arrive 7 ish. Will try to book a three or four day salt flat tour with Lincancabur Tours leaving Thursday morning. May have to wait a day to get a spot...
*Friday, 12/1: Leave Uyuni for tour to Tupiza
*Monday, 12/4: Stay in Tupiza for two nights
*Wednesday, 12/6: Leave Tupiza and go to Villazon (2.5 hrs), cross the border into Argentina, take bus from La Quiaca to Salta arriving mid evening
*Stay in Salta for 3-4 nights
*Monday, 12/10: Take night bus to Mendoza (20 hrs), maybe stop in Cachi and another small town on the way and catch bus to Mendoza from a different city...
*Wednesday, 12/12: Should be in Mendoza by now, spend 4-5 nights here with Frank and Brian (friends of my grandparents)
*Saturday, 12/17: Take a night bus to Buenos Aires (or if doing really well on time leave Sat afternoon or Sun morning for Chilean Lake District)
*Monday, 12/18: If I skip Chile, should be in Buenos Aires by now. Stay four nights in a hostel tbd, and then Friday, 12/22 - Monday, 12/25 in Millhouse hostel.
*Tuesday, 12/26: Head to Uruguay. Take ferry to Colonial, stay the night, then take the bus to Punte del Este and stay three nights (Wed - Fri)
*Saturday, 12/30: Take bus to Montevideo and then ferry to Buenos Aires, stay 1 night *Sunday, 12/31: Meet Mom and Dad in our BA hotel
*Monday, 1/1: Fly down to Bariloche and begin 17 day/16 night Tucan Travel Patagonia tour with Mom and Dad, visiting Bariloche, Perito Moreno, Fitzroy National Park, arriving in El Calafate on 1/7 to visit the Moreno Glacier before crossing the border into Chile at Puerto Natales and into Torres del Paine National Park for several days of camping and hiking. From there, on day 12 we proceed south to Punta Arenas to see a penguin colony near the Straits of Magellan, then cross to Tierra del Fuego by ferry and on through Darwin's Beagle Channel to end the tour at Ushuaia.
*Wednesday, 1/17: Fly from Ushuaia to BA with Mom and Dad and spend two days in BA with them until they fly home on Friday night, 1/19
*Friday, 1/19: night bus to Iguassu falls (18 hours) or chill in BA one more day *Saturday, 1/20: extra BA day, or buffer day
*Sunday, 1/21: 1-2 nights on Argentinian side (assuming I get in late the first day, full day of sight-seeing the second day); perhaps head to Brazilian side second night
*Tuesday, 1/23: Check out Brazilian side and then head to Porte Alegre (night bus?)
*From here until a week before Carnival, work my way up the southeast coast of Brazil, visiting Porte Alegre, Conchinva, Isla Domel, Paranagua, Florianopolis, and Curitiba.
*Fly from Curitiba to Salvador one week before Carnival (early Feb)
*Do one week of Portugese classes in Salvador, and then celebrate Carnival with Kristen
*After Carnival, travel up the northeast coast to Belem (3-4 weeks)
*Fly from Belem to Rio two weeks before scheduled departure to California (as of now, March 26th but will extend at least a couple weeks) and visit Rio/surrounding areas
