Our first week of spanish school is over!  It has been a good first week but tough going especially with everything taught in spanish - we all generally come out of class feeling like your brain has went 12 rounds with Mike Tyson and that we haven't learnt anything but then when your back in class the next day, things suddenly start to come back to you.  It's particually difficult being an english speaker as all the verbs, infinitives, subjunctives etc can get you into a right tizzle as there is so much to remember but we are already feeling less silly when we are out and about as we can now manage to get our point across.  This is of course worthless when they talk back to us in spanish as they talk so damned fast that its hard to make out individual words let alone the jist of the conversation.  You would think being Scottish would help as we tend to talk fast too but no!!  Happy days.

With class being finished for the week we all decided to get together for dinner to celebrate.  After much deliberation we ended up chosing to go to a resturant called La Cabrerra which is in Palermo Soho about a 15min walk from our hostel.  This resturant had amazing reviews from the Lonely Planet, Marks friend Emma, and from some of the guys at school so we decided to meet there early at 8pm to make sure that we would be able to get a table for 10.

We all pretty much arrived at the resturant at 8ish and had to wait until it opened at 8.30 before trying to get a table.  Thankfully Paula's daughter came along and she speaks pretty fluent spanish so we sent her on a mission to get us a table at 8.30pm.  Unfortunately just before she could get to the hostess another group of ten showed up and cheeky buggers managed to get the only table that could seat 10 in the whole resturant.  No problem said the hostess - if we wait another 30mins or so she should be able to get us seated.  Lovely we thought, half an hour ain't that bad so we waited, and waited, and waited, and waited. And then waited some more.  Now the wait was eased by them providing us with free champagne and nibbles while we waited but we did not get seated until 11.30pm.  Mark and I by this point were wasting away and thankfully the wait was worth it (well maybe not 3.5 hours but it was pretty amazing).

La Cabrerra is famous for two things - the steak and the size of the portions.  Mark and I on firm recommendations from Paula decided to share a steak and i'm sure glad we did it was huge (see picture) - saying that Mark probably would have made a good attempt at going solo but I'm glad we decided to share.  The meal was fab, the company was entertaining - especially Ben giving us a full blown account of why he is obsessed with Micheal Jackson.  However, despite the most gorgeous steak ever, the best part of the meal had to be the giant lollypop tree that they brought to the table at the end of the meal.  Genius!!

All in all a lovely evening!!!!
