Where I stayed
Camp Jenkins :)
One stop was Dunkin' Donuts…an iced coffee and a couple of donuts (along with free wi-fi) helped to calm me down. We stopped for gas (keep forgetting that NJ doesn’t allow you to pump your own gas, but I still need to get out of the RV to unlock the gas door for them, so it seems a mite silly) and about 20 minutes later, stopped again at a thrift store that had just opened. It was enormous. Within 10 minutes of arriving there, I found it. The one thing I never thought I’d find at a thrift store or at least in working order: a Keurig coffeemaker
Our GPS took us to our spot for the night: our sponsor contact’s home business. However, what it initially led us to was a dead end street on a private drive. We sat there for a few minutes, contemplating what to do (there was no way I’d be able to turn around), but then our contact’s son came out to greet us. We’d heard from our contact a week ago and she said she’s been having some major health issues, so she had someone else lined up to work with us today. Her son directed us down a long driveway behind the houses that led to their well drilling business lot and we settled in to an electric hook-up AND fresh water hook-up AND their swimming pool that they said we were welcome to use.
And what a day we ended up having! I’ll tell you what; these folks care about and love the circus a lot. Our driver, John, has been on the school board here for 20 years and it shows. This man is passionate about education and after visiting almost every single school in the area, it’s obvious that they’re lucky to have him
J.P. was an absolute trooper today; we did classroom visits all morning and afternoon. He did a much shorter version of his program in each and every one of them and every single classroom loved it. We had such a good time, we didn’t even realize how exhausted we were until he dropped us back off at the RV. John also treated us to lunch at a great local diner, which was very much appreciated.
It is unmercifully hot out here and it hasn’t even hit the upper 90s yet…I am such a wimp in the heat and humidity. I just deflate. We stayed hydrated today, but even our a/c in the RV had a hard time keeping up. It was set to cool down to 75, but when we got back, it had only managed 84 degrees. I’m definitely nervous about heading into the hot weather with a cat in here. Because we have to rely on plugging into electric to run our a/c, it’s a little nerve-wracking having to make sure we have access to an outlet every stop we make.
