Many people may wonder why we headed down to the Keys and appear to have by-passed Miami. Well, we fly out of Miami in the evening and whilst the beach is supposidly great there didn't seem any appeal so we headed down here to enjoy a relaing few days before heading to South America.

During our time at the southern most points of the US we drove out along the highway towards Marathon on the way to Key West. The seven mile bridge is just as it sounds and it is quite an amazing thing to see and just after it we found a quiet beach were we stopped and enjoyed the clear water and glorious sunshine. We also made use of the local pools and fishing industry to relax and enjoy some great food.

Now, at this point we could go into great detail about the interactions we have had with some of the locals here. Being aware that this is a laid-back state doesn't quite prepare you for the dozy behaviour of some who just wander infront of moving cars, or the people who don't seem to understand multi-syllabic English that is spoken at rate of more than one syllable a second. Having said that we have met some very interesting and friendly people who make this place an enjoyable, relaxing place to visit. The climate is a little too humid but the sun, sea and sand are undeniably appealing.

As we said we fly out of Miami on Thursday evening so during the day we drove back up the highway, stopping off in Florida City for an interesting, American version of a KFC, and then on to Miami. We took a drive over the bridge to the famous beach and then back to look at the Art Deco buildings and streets of the city before heading for the airport for our flight to Buenos Aires.
