We are now in Plettenberg Bay and checked in to a backpacker's lodge just up from the main street in the town. We got here this afternoon having spent two nights in a lovely tipee-style thatched six-sided bungalow in a small complex called Palms in Wilderness, near George. It was a lovely little town and the staff and surroundings very pleasant. Previously we had a night in De Opstel Lodge just outside Oudtshoorn where we visited the Cango Caves and an ostrich farm. A very funny experience considering that there were 11 Mexican bikers on a Karoo BMW touring holiday - they tried riding the animals and made it a unique experience!
Whilst in Wilderness Claire had the idea of going canoeing on the river and lagoon that feeds the sea. Well, we booked a trip for the following morning but someone had butterflies! (To add to this Claire woke and opened the front door to find a black scorpion staring back at her). After a little coaching we took to the water and had a lovely scenic trip along the river and felt as though we had actually done something energetic - well, almost!
Been eating lots of food and seeing lots of mountains and straight roads, again. Unfortunately the weather has gone a bit cloudy so beach is not looking overly appealing. Off to watch a film in the local cinema later and off to see monkeys and elephants tomorow - no jokes please.
Hope all are well and speak soon.
