Wednesday 15th August 2007 - Sunday 19th August 2007

Fantastic bus to Mendoza.  Loving Argentinian transport as well as everything else Argentinian!  Bus was huge and large reclining leather seats and yet this was only semi cama - still one class to go, and we will test this top class soon!  No horrendous films, just a relaxing trip with champagne and whisky nightcaps on the house!  The 18 hours passed surprisingly quickly and soon we were in very cold Mendoza.

The hostel we had booked was the best yet, open fires, leather sofas, great kitchen and a resident gentle but huge Alsation named Astor who wanted to play fetch with a leaf 24 hours a day!

Mendoza is a bigger city than Salta, and not as pretty, but still lots to see, and great to just relax in the hostel with the free wine (!!) and cosy living rooms .   A novelty to cook our own suppers and take off our fleeces indoors!

Mendoza has a great city park which we spent an afternoon wandering aorund - felt very like England in the autumn with the leaves falling off the trees.  Unfortunately we seem to be attracting stray dogs everywhere we walk, and had a pack 20 strong at our heels by the time our ´pleasant´stroll was over!  Luckily a bunch of joggers ran by and we lost the dogs to them...but not sure for how long.....!

We also had a fantastic day horseriding in the snow.  Travelled an hour into the mountains to the stables where we met our guide and our horses for the day.  Was just the 2 of us and our guide.  The horses were lovely, and thankfully very calm, and we were shown how to ride Árgentinian style (i.e. no hats, one hand on the rein and no fear!!) before heading off into the snowy mountains.  We rode for 3 hours through beautiful scenery, and although rather chilly, the views more than made up for it.  We returned to the stables where a roaring fire awaited us in a log cabin.  Our steaks were sizzling on a grill on the fire and a bottle of red vino was opened for us.  We were treated like royalty as we were served dinner  by the fire with the snow falling outside!  Perfecto! One of the best days so far!
03 Giddy up.....

07 Warming up......
Loving Argentina, but still lots to see in Chile and so heading west into Chile next to visit the coastal port of Valpraiso and capital Santiago before heading south to the Lake District of both Chile and Argentina.

Love to you all x
