The bus from Nanning to the Vietnamese border was not too bad, we got off the bus and walked through the border then onto another bus for Hanoi. The whole journey lasted 8 hours in total.

When we got to our hostel we chucked our bags had a quick shower and headed for the old quarter. This place is crazy, so many motorbikes its unbelievable. We went for some food in 'Little Hanoi' where the guidebook recommended, great food! Was good to actually get some meat without so much fat and bone for once. Seems that Vietnam is a lot more geared up for tourists compared to China as all the food was a lot more western. After food we escaped to Hoan Kiem Lake which was a bit more relaxed, had a beer and hit the sack!

The next few days we visited a few museums and the mansoleum of Ho Chi Minh. Bit dissapointing as it was only a wax model of him! Apparently he was in Russia being re-pickled along with Lenin.... We also visited the 'Hanoi Hilton' aka Hoa Lo Prison where they held all the American POWs' which was interesting. The city was full of French architecture which was pretty surreal, just like being back in Nice! Didn't see Victor floating about anywhere though.....
