I did not have the opportunity to blog again before I left Indianapolis; I did get to attend one last session in the morning, It was the Episteme Laureate Presentation. It was given by Dr. Mary Naylor who was the recipient of the Joan K Stout Research Grant. Dr. Taylor is from the University of Pennsylvania and she has been a leader in the field of nursing by developing and implementing the Transitional Care Model primarily for older adults. She has been awarded multiple RO1 awards from NINR. Her presentation was an excellent overview of her research trajectory and one of the points she made was how much we can accomplish when a team of people come together and we help each other. She left everyone with the impression that she had indeed worked hard throughout the evolution of her work but that everyone else involved had also worked very hard and she appreciated and understood their contributions.

As I close out this blog, I want to reflect for a minute or two on what I saw at the Biennial Convention. I saw young nurses at the Biennial Convention. With stars in their eyes and a great deal of intelligence these people are determined to make a difference in our society. I also saw mid-career nurses who have good research trajectories with both accomplished and ongoing projects. I also saw retired nurses who were there because of their ongoing interest in the evolving profession of nursing . In many ways, Sigma Theta Tau International (STTI) provides a place where all nurses along the life span of their careers and beyond can come and witness the evolution of the profession. I left renewed in the purpose to have a chartered chapter at GW because our Department of Nursing Education stands to benefit in so many ways. STTI provides a place to showcase our work, it provides a forum for sharing and support, it reminds us to be aware of the global focus demanded in today's world, and it places in front us multiple models of excellence. Every one of the nurses who were a part of this Convention was there because (s)he wanted to be a part of delivering and improving patient care. Our founding mothers were onto something....."love, courage, honor", yes, we at GW will carry this into the future....here we come!

This is a beautifully written account of the convention events. Thank you for taking the time to help us connect with the Sigma experience.

Glad you are back safe & sound!
