Up and at 'em at 9:30 in the morning. The best night's sleep I have had on this entire trip. So nice. Then we jump in the car and head to the Cliffs of Moher. Big thrill for me, they let me drive the car!!!! So there I am, sitting on the right side of the car, driving on the left side of the road, shifting with my left hand! It was so cool, and I'm glad I got to do it. It's not as hard as you would think, but the super narrow roads don't make it any easier.
The Cliffs of Moher are something that everyone has seen in pictures, but might not know what they are. They are jagged cliffs of rock that descend 213 meters (over 640 feet) straight down into the sparkling blue ocean. They are absolutely georgeous. I have decided that the three prettiest things I have seen in my life (besides my mom of course) are: The Rocky Mountains, The Alps, and The Cliffs of Moher. If any of you can make it, it is so worth it to come to Ireland, stay in small town and see the Ring of Kerry, and these cliffs. Just beautiful.
There is a trail to walk on, but you are allowed to go anywhere. It is very windy up there. Each year there are a few tourists that push the wandering envelope a little too far and end up getting blown off the cliff. I made sure to be careful and explored everywhere. We got a bunch of pictures and I hope they turn out. I just know that they will not be able to give this beauty justice. Amazing views though, just awesome. While at the cliffs, we ran into Kevin again who made the 2 hour walk there from the hostel and he joins us for the ride back.
Then we went to the town of Lisdoorvarne for some lunch. It is a tiny town. We go into a pub and get sandwiches and Guinness. After that Jim and Jake have to leave to meet up with some of Jim's family. I decide that I will part with them, because Doolin is the perfect Irish town. I want to have another night just existing in this small town, where there seems to not be a care in the world. So I say goodbye to my new friends. They were awesome to me, letting me be in their car and driving everywhere.
After hanging out aroud the hostel for a while, Kevin and I take a walk to the Doolin Pier. It is about 3 miles from the hostel. We walk down there and stroll along the water's edge with all of these rock formations that are made. It is just like the cliffs, except it is only about 1 meter from the water, instead of 213. Again these views are rockin, and it is about sunset, so we get to see the pink, orange, and blue sky and the sun dives into the endless ocean. Magnificent! We go to the grocery store and pick up an onion, spaghetti sauce, bread, cheese, soup, and beans. Then we go back and make a feast for ourselves and our 50 year old friend Claudia from Germany who is also stayin in the hostel. Wonderful lady. While we are making dinner, the hostel is really bustling. There are all kinds of guests there that are all my age. Four from Australia, a guy from Seattle, a guy from Wisconsin, Kevin, Claudia and I. We start playing cards and just really really enjoy talking to each other. Some are at the tables, some are in the rocking chairs, we are all hanging out by the little stove fireplace in the hostel. This is prolly the best hostel experience I have had yet. So quaint and so fun.
Then at 10:00 we decide to hit one of the three pubs in the area. We go to McGann's because they are going to have music. We all have three pints there and just enjoy the traditional Irish music that is filling our ears. Such a blast to talk to these kids. WE go back to the hostel and I sleep in the awesome bed. One of the best days of the trip so far, hands down!
