I've just come to the end of 9 awesome days travelling the West Coast of Australia from Perth to Broome. An excellent group of people and a great guide made this one of the best trips I've done while I've been travelling.
Along the way we visited wierd rock formations, beaches and the world-famous Ningaloo Reef, Australia's second biggest coral reef. We also chilled out (baked actually) in Karijini National Park, one of the most beautiful places I've seen on my travels. Each day we got out of the 40+ degree heat in the gorges of the park to go walking, canyoning and swimming.
We saw kangaroos, wallaroos, eagles, snakes, spiders, and also some stranger creatures like the echidna and the thorny devil. At Ningaloo we snorkeled with sea turtles, sharks and manta rays, the best snorkeling I have seen anywhere on my travels!
We also swam at night, spent the dark hours in a hot tub and on several awesome beaches, and watched giant sea turtles struggle up the beach in the moonlight to lay their eggs. We spent 3 nights camped out under the stars in swags (like thicker versions of sleeping bags) and saw several awesome sunsets and sunrises.
On our last night, travelling towards Broome, we got a real taste of the wet season when a completely unbelievable storm started going off around us. Our last night in Broome was spent sitting on the beach watching bolt after bolt of lightning erupt over the sea.
Pictures are most definitely on their way, as soon as I can find a half-decent computer that will let me upload them!! Next, I am continuing my journey up the North-West coast from Broome to Darwin via the Kimberley, probably the remotest area of Australia. I should hopefully emerge in Darwin around the 22nd...
