There is a small place at the center of the hauru point shopping center which hires out scooters in decent shape for about 5500 CFP (~55$ U.S.). If you rent one at noon you can spend the afternoon and next morning riding around the island at about 50 kmh (traffic moves faster, so glance at the rear view mirror and stay to the side, if possible), stopping along the way or just cruising.

I hooked up with the Kiwi girls(Natasha, and Jo), and we made our way along a route mapped out by the friendly but crazy chicago cop named Vic. Our first stop was the Beachcomer Intercontinental Resort which has some of the nicest logings on the island. Among its amenities are a dolphin lagoon, and a turtle rehab center for all those strung out tortoises that have been known to attack tourists while looking for a quick fix. From there we worked our way clockwise around the island to beleveder point which offers a drive up panoramic view of the island, and a cold beverage if your interested. The next stop, a fruit plant in cooks bay, was closed, but we managed to score some damn good pinnaple juice anyways.

It was getting towards dusk when we made it to a beach just south of the airport on the northeast coast of the island. After lounging in the lagoon for a while, locals starting showing up to play a game of volleyball. The girls took off shorly after I started playing, having been invited to do so by a charismatic guy named Tikii. The game was scoreless, there were no boundaries, the ground was covered in rocks, I didn't understand a word that was spoken, abd I had a fucking blast. I met Tikii later that week at the closest thing to a party I've experienced since arriving on the island, a resort sponsored bash in the theme of the movie "Mars Attacks". The DJ was on par with the quality of the movie, but I still had a good time trying to dance like europeans and spending a fortune on drinks. I also met a burnt out kite-surfer named Wayne who bought time share in the Bali High and kept suggesting that he was "Babysitting"(I have know Idea what he meant).

All in all it was a great first week in the south pacific, and I pay the rent a day at a time, making sure that as little future planning as possible can be done.

ground control to Charles
Charles,

the pictures are nice, put more. 'Flowers in motion' - super. You fixed your camera? or it's another one? As far as I understood you could even upload movies to this side.

Kostya.
