Well we survived our first tornado warning today. The severe thunderstorms started around 3am. Jamie and I awoke to the sound of thunder and pouring rain. Jamie headed over to the hospital, and I decided to turn on the news to get the weather. To my surprise, we had flood warnings, flash flood warnings, and yes, a tornado warning. That last one really caught my eye.

The local news stations didn't seem to be following the whole "tornado thing" too closely so I switched over to the weather channel. The guy the weather channel was showing a close up map of an area of Houston where the to fronts were colliding and causing the clouds to spin (this is what triggered the tornado warning.) Well wouldn't you just know it, the area they were talking about is where Westheimer meets the Beltway 8, aka about a mile and a half from our apartment. The weather channel then said they had reports of a funnel cloud beginning to take shape in the area. Awesome. Then the weather channel cut to a commercial. Timing couldn't be better.

Before I crawled into the bath tub and threw a mattress over myself I decided to check the local weather station one more time. Thankfully the tornado never materialized, and the warning expired soon after. The torrential down pours continued on for the rest of the day though.
