Flights were on time and we arrived about 3:40PM Istanbul time to find sun, wind , cool temperatures (low 50s) and literally tens of thousands of tulips in bloom around the roadside. They have planted picturesque flower beds of tulips, petunias and other vibrant colored flowers all along the major roadway from the airport to the city.

We pre-arranged for an airport- to-hotel transfer with a private company because the local cab companies are sometimes not the most ethical in their dealings with customers. It worked great once we finally found our name on a sign, one of literally dozens of car services waiting to pick up people.

Yvonne had watched not one, but 2, movies on the nine hour flight to London so guess who was really tired when we arrived in Istanbul. She actually fell asleep on a lobby overstuffed chair as I was busy checking in. The desk staff suggested I let her sleep there for awhile while we waited for Gerry & Sue who were due to arrive about 1 hour later.

They got here on time also and we adjourned to the 14th floor cocktail lounge and restaurant here at the hotel (Conrad Hilton) for a welcoming toast and "mezes"- small Turkish appetizer plates. There is quite a view of the Bosporus Straits with its lighted bridge from the lounge. Two hours later we called it a night as we need to get our biological clocks recalibrated and be ready for our 9AM departure for the culinary Istanbul walking tour. "Skip breakfast" they warned us as we expect to try 15 or so different Turkish treats during the tour.

So good night from Istanbul.

Glad to hear you all made it safely and on time. Lots of rain still here. Might be at 9 inches for March by now.

Oh how I love traveling with the Bishops in my mind. Your blog helps. The pizza looked wonderful and I would've loved to taste the lentil soup. Enjoy!
