After 24 days traveling 11,352 miles in airplanes, over 4000 nautical miles by ship, and spending 2 additional nights in hotels we are safely back at our Miller Bay home in Seattle. There were no pirates, no uprisings or demonstrations, and no threats to our safety during the entire trip. We met lots of wonderful people in countries with totally different cultures then we have experienced in the past.

We visited 7 countries, transited the Suez Canal, sailed through the Sea of Marmara, the Aegean Sea, the Red Sea,  the Gulf of Aden, the Gulf of Oman, the famous Straits of Hormuz, and the Arabian Sea. Along the way we stopped at 10 ports, went on 14 different escorted tours, walked untold miles on those tours and learned tons of information about people, cultures and history, much of which, unfortunately will be lost by us as time distances us from the experiences. Language was not a problem in this region  of the world, as virtually everyone spoke English, which surprised me.  Oman and Jordan impressed me the most. Israel disappointed me somewhat because I had hoped it would be a more religious experience than it was.

The ship was excellent; the food was fabulous. We ate too much great food along the way, including a lot more ice cream, pastries and fabulous breads than we should have.

All in all, it was a memorable trip. It made it even more special because we got to share it with our good Wisconsin friends, Stan and Cindy Jaskolski, and I thank them for trusting us to take them on this exotic trip.

Now it is time to start planning our 2014 adventures!  Consider joining us as we explore more of the world we live in.
