I took the train to Stresa, via Milan, which is located on Lake Maggiore (west of Lake Como).

The ride was very comfortable.  The first leg was with a couple from Australia and the Milan to Stresa leg was with a couple from Norway.  They have a daughter in school in Boulder and she is on the Norway national shi team with hopes for the Olympics.

The ride is tunnel after tunnel along the Sea until you get to Milan.  What a change from what I have been seeing.  6 & 8 lane roads-tons of nre high rise apartment buildings going up everywhere.  On one side of the train you see what I guess to be old Milan and on the other-construction cranes.

So we are riding through farm areas and then a treed area and the BAM-Lake Maggiore.  It's huge and beautiful.  The Alps are to the north but can't be seen due to haze.

I'm staying at the Regina Palace.  The lobby is out of a movie.  There is a chandelier that must be 15 feet in diameter, antique looking furniture and a grand wooden staircase.  Check it out at www.regina-palace.it .  My room has beautiful hardwood floors and a jacuzzi and it has a small balcony with a view of the lake.

I realized that I have lost my cell phone.  The last time I used it was while waiting for my flight in Chicago in the Air France lounge but I probably left it when I rushed through security trying to make my flight to Venice.  I'll try to check lost and found in both places on my way back.  I called T-mobile and suspended service.

On 9-14, I took the ferry to Isola Bella, Isola Superiore di Pescatore and Bravena.  There us a castle, now a museum on Bella that is breathtaking with beautiful gardens.  This took the majority of the day.

When I got back at 5 I went up the street and washed my jeans before they walked up there without me.

Like last night I had dinner outside in the piazza. Live music, interesting shops and views.  Delightful.

I have watched so much CNN World which has the same stories over and over and over and...that I have resorted to watching or listening to American moves dubbed in Italian.  David Letterman where are you.

Today, 9-15, I took the ferry to Isola Madre where there is another palace and beautiful gardens.  Met a couple from South Carolina.  Interesting story. Remind me and I'll tell you.  They invited me to join them for dinner near Switzerland (it's very close) but I didn't want to be out late because I have to leave for the airport.

Then at lunch I met a couple from Seattle.  It made for an interesting lunch.

I'll have dinner about 8:30, walk around for a while and then back to the hotel to pack as much as I can for the morning.

The Italians seem to have as much trouble with menus in English as the Chinese in the US do.  How about "grilled lamp chops" or "linguine with calm"?

I'll try to write from Paris.

Love,
B

PS:  I just found my phone inside of something.  Hooray.
