Aloha to our family and friends from Oahu! Our first day started with a few events. While waiting for Dee to be picked up by Ron, Nancy and Ady, she looked down and to her amazement, saw a flash of back fur with a white stripe down the middle. The panic set in, because she didn't want to alert the "skunk" and wanted to get her luggage out of harm’s way. It would have been a very stinky situation, that’s for sure. Bottom line, she got the garage door shut without any spray, and patiently waited for her ride to come. Ron dropped the women off at the airport, and he went to park the car.
The security lines were pretty long and we waited very patiently (not) to get through. We arrived at our gate for our flight to Salt Lake City, which began boarding shortly thereafter. Our first flight lasted approximately 4 hours. We watched the Bounty Hunter movie with Jennifer Anniston. Not bad, half a thumb up. We got into Salt Lake and waited about 2-3 hours for our next flight to Honolulu. The flight was full. It was a HUGE plane, with six more hours staring us in the face. Fortunately we had individual computers on it, so we whiled away the hours watching TV, playing games and watching Sex in the City 2 (1 thumbs up). Ron watched Karate Kid 2 – much like 1.
We arrived at Honolulu. No one greeted us with a lei (Boo Hoo). We took our shuttle to Alamo to pick up our SUV. (Dave, we used the kiosk, which was pretty quick.) We selected a silver Ford Escape, and we were on our way to our hotel in Waikiki. Talk about traffic – bumper to bumper for about eight miles. We located our hotel, Best Western Coconut Waikiki, thanks to Garmin. It’s a newly renovated boutique hotel, with a mountain and canal view (pretty at night). It was rated #1 on Trip Advisor. It’s three blocks from the Waikiki Beach.
We unloaded the car, got our walking shoes on and toured downtown Waikiki. There are a lot of high rise hotels here. It was dinner time, so we just saw a small outdoor restaurant at the Sheraton Waikiki called the Edge and had our $16 hamburgers. We all agreed they were pretty tasty.
We walked back to the hotel, and since we had not adjusted to the new time zone, we quickly got ready for bed and turned in at 8:00 p.m. (2:00 a.m. Cincy time).
