Friday night we went to a party/reunion. A friend and former colleague had a get together for another former colleague who moved away 9 years ago. We had a great time with everyone and the pets. It was funny because our hostess Susan lives about 1.5 hours southwest of Charlotte near a little town called Sharon. After driving about 35 miles in the wrong direction I finally found my way. I had a big laugh because 1. Here I go around the world and then I get lost on a 1.5 hour drive(not that i did'nt get lost on the trip!) 2. The same week I travel from Sydney, Australia to Sharon, South Carolina, quite a contrast!
It sure was nice to get back to my "home away from home". I have seen lots of places but there is no place like Chimney Rock! What a laid back and beautiful place. We just spent a long weekend at the cabin, more R & R, hiking and tubing in the river. I had a chance to try out some Thai cooking on our neighbor Pat, she gave it a thumbs up! Still need to work on the Pad Thai but its getting there. The soups are coming along great.
So far the pounds are staying off, the weight is unchanged since my return. I thought it might creep back up. I have been conscious of the diet and have been trying to watch what i'm eating. Now if I can get John to quit buying ice cream!!!
While I was away the owners of Chimney Rock Park put the park up for sale after negotiations with the State of North Carolina broke down. Supposedly they are still talking but are many millions apart on the price. Hopefully the state and The Nature Conservancy or other environmentally friendly entity can put together an acceptable offer. It would be heartbreaking to see this park developed. For those of you who have been to Chimney Rock Park and those who are enviromentalist please go to this web site (www. savechimneyrock .net--cant directly link to the site its against Travelpods TOS)and contact the appropriate state officials and the owners of the park and let them know how important it is to preserve the park in its natural state.
It looks like I got home just in time as the camera went out this past weekend. The last couple of weeks of the trip it was malfuntioning. The same thing happened on the Greece trip a couple of years ago. It was $100+ for repairs, this time we are just going to buy a new one(yea!). I have an disposable I bought in Thailand for the full moon party, I am getting those processed today, I will try to post a few more pics this weekend, so check back if they are not loaded under this entry.
I went to the credit union and lunch today and ran into 9 former colleagues and am going to a movie with another here in just a bit. It was great to see everybody, it only reminds me of all the great people i used to work with. I sure do miss my old buds!
