It has been a good week other than being a little under the weather(figuratively and literally). Koh Phi Phi is wonderful. It is so relaxing I dread going back to a city. I ended up extending my stay by two day since illness/weather kept me down a bit. I'm so glad I did!

Wednesday I took a cooking class. I ended up being the only one so I felt I had special treatment. I selected 3 dishes to learn. Pad Thai, Tom Yum, and Chicken w/cashew nuts. We sat down at 10am and the instructor Josh(English, ironically) went over all the different spices used in Thai cooking. Then he went through the herbs that are used. That took a couple of hours. Then it was hands on, me and the wok. It is surprisingly simple. I only hope I can replicate it once I'm at home! There was a cookbook included in the tuition and Josh said feel free to email him with questions if there were any problems. The best part about it was I got to eat what I cooked. By the third dish I was stuffed. Imagine 2 entrees and 1 soup and 90 degrees! Funny though I never imagined myself eating/drinking soup, tea, and coffee in this weather. When in Thailand do as the Thais do right? Which brings me to another question. If you are in Thailand and you eat a hamburger is it Thai food? Not that I have mind you, but its offered at all the restaurants here. I've had too much time to think here.

Between the weather and not feeling well I have had a chance to read which has been enjoyable. Yesterday I bought "The Beach" which was filmed here. As of today I have almost finished(rained all day yesterday). I also read a Patricia Cornwell, "The Last Precinct". Tomorrow I will do a book swap and get a couple of new books. The restaurants here show movies thru the day and at night. Yesterday I saw "Hitch" which was pretty cute for a rainy day. The other night I saw almost all of "The Beach".

Today was beautiful. Finally I got to go snorkeling. I took the sunset cruise. 4 hours, snorkeling gear, drinks, fruit, and fried rice 450 baht, almost $11.00! In addition the scenery was beautiful. We went to Phi Phi Ley which is where some of "The Beach" was filmed.

The sea life was awesome. I was surprised how many varieties there were. Again I was the Grandpa on the boat, how depressing! But fun none-the-less. So I am young at heart, right?

I think I figured out how to up load pics without putting them on a CD(thanks to my friends here at the internet cafe). So I may be able to update fingers crossed).

Tomorrow is may last full day here then to Phuiket for the night and fly to Chaing Maim Saturday morn. Until then........

Ciao,

Chuck
