So i was up early on the 23rd to go to the airport and fly to Anatalya in Southern Turkey. I had planned to come to Antalya because i heard they had beautiful beaches. I am glad i did not spend any time in Antalya as it appeared from the road that there was not much to see.

The trip there was another experience in travels. The "bus" was a large van. The van driver drove down the road honking his horn every few minutes. Finally I realized he was letting folks know he was there in case someone wanted a ride. The "bus" seated 17. At the max there were a total of 27 bodies on the "bus". 3 kids were on laps. Those without a seat sat on a storage compartment, small plastic outdoor tables in the aisle and one on the floor.

It was not until after i began my trip that i heard about Olympos. It is about 1.5 hours by bus from Antalya. Olypmos is known for its tree houses and bungalow accommodations. That sounded appealing to me and here i am. When i left Istanbul i forgot to get money from the ATM. When the van pulled into the town I was like oh no I bet there is no ATM here. Olympos is very small very little of the road is paved. But guess what, they had an ATM. It was in the back of a van with a satellite dish on top. Whew what a relief.

I stayed at Saban, a family run place. The hosts are very nice. The price included breakfast and dinner. The food was excellent. I also met some really nice people. I ended up staying 2 days longer than originally planned. It was so relaxing and laid back. We would have breakfast then sit around and talk for hours. Eventually we would get up and hit the beach or hike. They had neat Turkish style gazebos called Çardak that were great for lounging. One night the gang decided to party a little. Not only was there an ATM but a disco too! The Orange Bar Disco. The evening started with Meryl our hostess pouring us some very strong vodka drinks with fruit juice. Sometime after midnight we hit the disco. The Aussies in the crowd were feeling no pain! It was a very fun night. After the disco Andy and Jackie went back to Saban and Teun, Ben and I went to Kadirs and closed the place down. We got home at 5am! The next day Ben and Jackie were feeling a bit rough to say the least.

While in Olympos Jackie, Andy, and I went to see the Chimaera flames. They are about 1 km up a mountain. They have been burning for eons. They are mentioned in Mythology. The flames come out of rocks. There is some question of their origın. From what i read they are not as bright as they once were. It was quite a sight to see none the less.

Regretfully it was time to leave. The next chapter in the big adventure, a
"Blue Cruise" as they are called.
