I am currently in the Ljubjlana airport. My flight is delayed 1.5 hours as of now. While here I met some Aussies. We chatted a bit. I told them about my change of plans regarding Istanbul. They said have no fears. They are here connecting flight from Istanbul. They said they never felt threatened or unsafe. So, I am reconsidering my plan. Maybe i will go to Istanbul. It looks like i will have even more time as they just bumped the flight another 30 minutes. Sound familiar US Airways people. Stay tuned who knows where I may land tonight.

I had a great 5 nights in Ljubljana. I bought a Ljubljana Card, free and reduced admmissons to museums etc, and free bus transport. For a city of its size Ljubjlana has a lot to offer for a city its size. The hometown achitect Joze Plecnik, left quite a mark on the city. He was an urban planner as well as architect. I toured his home and the Architecture Museum Saturday. I would say most of his buildings are Art Nouveau style and some are modern. His home was surprisingly simple, part of the home is just as it was when he died in 1957. Fascinating tour. While touring in I met Ferdinanda, she spoke about 10 words of English. She helped me get from place to place. We were together about 2 hours and she talked the whole time. Mostly in Slovene, somehow i think i knew what she was talking about part of the time. Also on Saturday I went to the Botanical Gardens. The bus stop was not marked as such so i missed my stop. At the end of the line i asked the bus driver about where to get off. He gaven me a Slovene language lesson, he did not speak English either. He was quite funny, he made me repeat after him, what a joke, Slovene is difficult.

On Sunday I took a bus to Lake Bled and Lake Bohinj. They are in Northern Slovenia, 1 hour 20 minutes from Ljubljana in the Julian Alps. Lake Bled was very picturesque, with its monastary on an island in the lake and the castle on the hill. I rented a bike and rode around a bit. from there i took the bus to Lake Bohinj about 25 minutes further up the road. Of course it was beautiful as well. Again I rented a bike and toured. Bohinj is more natural than Bled. It is ringed by tall mountains. There is still a little snow on the peaks. It was a beautiful afternoon. I took some time out to sun and relax on a secluded spot of beach. What day!

Well they are offering free snacks since we are delayed, I guess I will grab one, afrter all i paid $16.00 for this ticket to Frankfurt!!!!!

Ciao for now,

Chuck

11 PM Istanbul

Ok, so i changed my mind. Funny when I woke up this morning I was packing for Bangkok. Then I met the Aussies. He said you have a better chance of being run over by a car in Bangkok than being bombed in Istanbul. He had a point. Then he proceeded to tell me about the city. So what the hell, Istanbul it is and here I am. I arrived here about 630 PM. The Ljubljana flight was 3 hours late. As it turned out I had just enough time to claim my bag and recheck to Istanbul. I am staying about 1 block from the Blue Mosque. It is much larger than i expected, quite impressive. I cant wait to tour tomorrow. Everybody has tried to sell me a carpet, including the cat at dinner. It is a bit annoying, high pressure for sure. I told a couple of them i was unemployed and could not afford a rug, they offered me a job! I will work for carpets! If you only knew how true that could be!

Good Night, its late and time for bed!
