I was in Koh Phi Phi July '06.  I fell in love with the place. No cars, small, beautiful.  It was off peak season, not a lot of people.  They were still recovering from the tsunami.  I knew I wanted to return this trip for sure. Like I said in a previous post this is peak season.  I went online looking for rooms the night before we left everything was booked.  I decided to book a room online which is something I never do when I travel, however I thought I should make an exception.  The room cost $84, way over budget!  But we had piece of mind knowing we had a room.  It was actually the nicest room yet.  It was a bit out of town, up a big hill and then lots of steps to the room.  It turned out being a good idea to book the room, we walked from hotel to hotel looking for alternatives and most were full, the ones that had rooms were in the $150 price range.  We lucked up and found a place for $50, &  was very clean.  However it was in the suburbs of the party zone and you heard the thump thump of the bars until the early AM!  The 1st night was rough, the 2nd night we joined the party on the beach and slept through the noise.

While in Phi Phi we went snorkeling one afternoon with several hundred other westerners. One day we took a hike up to the view point for incredible views.  Another day was chill day on the beach!

We found 2 great restaurants on Phi Phi.  One I ate at in '06. It has a new owner but the food is still good.  We choose a restaurant by how many Thais are eating there, it is a method that has not failed us yet!  That is how we found the 2nd one.  We sat down next to a group of young Thais who worked at another restaurant!  How could we go wrong?  We asked them what they were eating and they gave us samples!

We had planned on staying in Phi Phi 5 nights but it was so crowded and over run with young party people we packed up and left for a more quiet island, Koh Lanta.
