Volcano tour

Santorini in just like the guide book said... full of beaches and great
night life. There is also a volcano that you can visit by taking an
overpriced tour boat. It turned out to a major disapointement and I
wouldn't recommend it to anyone. Essentially, it's a big steaming
rock... not too impressive. On the other hand, next to the volcano are
the hot spring which are always nice and soothing if you have the time.

Now it's time to head off to a few more islands then off to Corfu before we hit Italy...

Well, I think it's time to hop back on my moped and get some food don't you?

Cant keep the greek women waiting :)...

Day 3 - July 14 1997 - leaving Athens ... Santorini

Walking to
the ferry, we started talking with other backpackers and decided to
travel together.  Mike Behnke and his sister Kim from Manhattan beach,
California, along with a girl named Angela (Angie) Meiner from Seattle
Washington.  We all decided to go visit Santorini together and so off we
were on a ferry bound for the island of Thira.  I've never seen a sea
going ferry and this was quite the experience.  We bought rhum and wine
and partied with a couple of kiwis named Keri and Jacquie, police
officers back in Wellington, NZ.  I slept on the top of the ferry next
to a transformer that gave out heat.  It was a cool night on the sea and
the winds were picking up.  I barely slept, part due to the cold and
part because of the excitement.  After a 10 hour overnight ride, we went
straight to the hotel.  Most of us caught up on sleep but I went
straight to the hotel pool and lounged all day.  What a beautiful,
peaceful place.  When the others woke up we bought 5 Heineken beers for
255 Drachmas each ($1,26) which was cheaper than bottled water.  We ate
sandwiches in a partially built house on a vineyard.  It's likely that
we were trespassing but nobody seemed to care.   That night we went to a
bar named Enigma in downtown Thira and had a great time.  People from
all over the world, speaking different languages yet still united by
music and dancing away as one.   Hard time finding internet here on the
island but this one seems stable enough to write and post this.  Funny
to see that the internet isn't everywhere yet.

Day 4 - July 14 1997 - Santorini

After
last night's party Luc is still sleeping so Angie and I decided to rent
a scooter and explore the island.  What a beautiful place in the
mediterranean.  We grouped up with the others and bought tickets for the
volcano tour.  This place is amazing although the tour wasn't what we
expected.  It didn't go to the volcano after all... it seem we had been
lied to.  We still had a nice boat ride all around the island.  When we
got back, we decided to stay in and partied in our hotel room.  Tomorrow
we leave for the island of IOS.
