Up early to visit a 400 year old street that used to be an old trade route and travel town hundreds of years ago, because it is half way between Tokyo and Kyoto. It was sunny and quiet and a great contrast to the bustling sprawls of Tokyo. Good to see a bit of traditional architecture. Hiked up to a pass for good views and then went back into the town for some local soba noodles and roasted tea. A friendly volunteer guide with terrible but enthusiastic English approached us and walked us around the town before we got back on the train to Takayama.
