Hi everybody!
We recently came into possession of a hand puppet named Rosie. Rosie was made by Kendal, a Girl Scout in Butler, Ohio, USA. Rosie is traveling the world, visiting different people. Melanie received Rosie from Kendal's Aunt Rachel.

Since coming into our lives, Rosie has seen a windmill, been to Sao Paulo, Brazil, gone to the Eiffel Tower in Paris and has been to Brussels Belgium.

Here's what Rosie had to say about her adventure:

While in Amsterdam Chris and Melanie took me on their bikes to see one of only 2 remaining windmills in the city itself. Everybody in Amsterdam rides bikes. They are everywhere! In the old days there used to be windmills everywhere too, but now they aren't used very much in the cities. There are still lots of windmills in the countryside though and they are still used for many purposes such as pumping water and generating electricity.

Melanie had to go on a quick business trip to Sao Paulo, Brazil, so she let me come along. I spent the night with a colleague of hers, Nancy. Nancy has 2 small children and we really enjoyed playing together. In Brazil they speak Portuguese, but Nancy can speak English too! Here's what she said about my visit: "Luigi and Giovanna will miss Rosie - the time they spent together was such a fun and they did enjoy it. Although the long journey to arrive in Brazil, Rosie stayed with us just for a night. Hope Rosie had enjoyed her staying in São Paulo, the biggest and most crowded city in the country. São Paulo is well known as the capital for work. But, the city that never sleeps is much more. It's the capital of culture, entertainment and gastronomic pleasure. And we, as part of this huge family, know how to enjoy all these things and much more. We are fond of make new friends, receive them at home and take care of them - it´s part of our life style. Regards to the Scout Troop #61 in Ohio and tell them it was a pleasure to meet Rosie.'

After that, Melanie and Chris took me to Paris. In Paris everybody must see the Eiffel Tower. We went at night the first time and it was beautiful with all the lights. At the top of the hour the lights sparkle for 10 minutes! We went back again the next day to get a better picture and see it in the daytime.

The following weekend Melanie and Chris drove to Belgium for a day. We stopped in a small town called Ghent to buy some really hot mustard that is only made there. Then we drove into the Flanders area, which is in southwest Belgium, close to the French border. That part of the country looks a lot like Ohio! There really isn't very much there except for farms. Sprinkled throughout the farm country, though, are small military cemeteries where soldiers from WWI are buried. On the way home we stopped in Brussels to go to an antique show. The show was at the expo center, which is right next to the Atomium. Built for the 1958 World Fair, the Atomium represents a molecule's nine atoms - magnified 165 billion times! The 9 spheres that make up the atom are linked by escalators and people can go up into it to get a nice view of the city.

Now it's time for me to go visit somebody else. I'm being sent to Melanie's friend, Serena, who lives in Italy!

In addition to the photos of me, there are also some springtime in Amsterdam photos in the album. Have a peek!

Happy travels!
Rosie
